Well, it finally got released yesterday. Many many kids skipped school and people skipped work to play. So far, it’s not disappointing, but there have been a few small hitches.
Anyone else playing?

Bump.
I have it, and have played it a couple of times. It’s fun, but it’s no Halo 1.
Whatcha mean? What’s so bad about it?
I’ve played about a 100 games of it now and think it plays more like Halo 2.1 rather than Halo 3.
I like the new brute grenade.
I don’t like any of the new x-button activated weapons although I can see how they can be used to good effect in skirmish games.
Is it just me or is your avatar slower in this game than he is in Halo 2?
According to the Bungie stats page I’ve not played Halo 2 since november 06 so my memory is a bit hazy.
Overall I’m enjoying it and can’t wait until September(?) for some late night multiplayer with my Halo 2 clan.
I think that the scale of things is more like Halo 1. You’re moving at the same speed, but because everything else is bigger, it seems like you’re moving slower.
Some people have been saying that this is Halo 2.5 and not Halo 3. I think that what Bungie is doing is taking the best out of the first two games and putting it in the third.
The level of customization for custom games is going to be in-freaking-credible and almost TOO much stuff to change.
The X button tools are all rather useful, given the situation. The bubble shield is the most deployed of these tools, and the grav lift is the least. The grav lift is good for situations (getting to the laser on High Ground) or for self preservation (laying it out in front of an incoming warthog).
I’m enjoying it a bunch and testing it out. Multiplayer is already very very good, and I don’t see how it can’t be tweaked to be a little better in the final version.
One thing that did disappoint me is the inclusion of rockets on multiplayer.
Who actually likes rockets? Nobody I know.
Apart from laying down a protective barrier in skirmish games when you’re trying to escape with the flag I don’t really see the point of bubble shield.
In slayer games it’s pointless as someone will just walk into the bubble to melee you.
I’ve read that some people are unhappy with the graphics but I think they’re pretty good.
Does anyone have any idea how many multiplayer maps there will be?
There was an article released yesterday, I think I saw it on IGN.com, that shed more light on some of the multiplayer maps. I think the count is somewhere around 8.
I’m not a fan of rockets. I veto all of those games. That’s a big plus to the veto system. Bungie will keep track of the gametypes and maps and see what ones are popular/liked/disliked and change the frequency of them as needed.
Bubble shield is a very nifty addition. You’ve got a shotgun handy and someone starts firing from behind with a rifle, you can lay down the shield and smoke them with the shotgun when they get to the bubble. You’re playing capture the flag and you need a quick barrier to protect your team and the flag when it’s halfway across the map? It’s also good for king of the hill games too. My only problem with it is how vehicles react with it: they go right through it. It doesn’t seem uniform, with energy barriers stopping vehicles, but if it also deflected vehicles, then it would be too overpowered and would present a quandry if someone opened up a bubble shield right when the vehicle came at them (cut the vehicle in half? Stop it in its tracks? Do nothing?).
Been playing since released. I love it. The new Veto system was a great idea, upgrades to the Needler and Brute Shot are also very cool. New grenades are neat. I like that you can only carry 2 at a time. Keeps things from becomming to much of bomb fest like Halo 2 can be sometimes.
I dont like that the new rocket launcher doesnt track anymore, but the missle pods do, so… its a wash I guess.
