Halo Jones

I recent encountered The Ballad Of Halo Jones in graphic novel format.

But, it seems incomplete.
Any chance the author/artist will return to the story?

You know there are three books in total? At what point did the book end?

With Halo stealing the ship & deserting the military.

It was planned as a 9 volume saga, but stopped after 3, due to a dispute between writer and publisher. Alan Moore wanted full ownership of the character, Fleetway wasn’t willing to give it.

Virtually none. Even if he did at this point it would probably be about as good as DK2.
Best left alone, really.

Yes, excellent series.

Actually, I read volumn 2, then 1, then 3, so it was a little out of order.

For a while, my friends and I used ‘Slappy’ and ‘Chop Party’ as slang.

By the way, any Shriekback fans out there.

From the song Malaria…

"Wanna live by Halo Jones
wanna home that’s miles from my home
want my drugs from the Twilight Zone’

It was originally planned as a series spanning the whole of Halo’s life {I’ve heard different accounts of how long it was going to be, from nine part to twelve part}, but apart from the dispute between Moore and the publishers, despite being critically acclaimed - awards, namechecks by bands, even a stage version - it was never that popular with most 2000AD readers, who found a whole storyline of a girl going on a shopping trip a little taxing {I liked it myself, but it could be a little precious, and the futuristic slang was just grating} and preferred Judge Dredd bashing people or Slaine hacking them instead. When it came to the crunch, it just wasn’t popular enough for the editor to justify fighting for.

A pity: 2000AD always had an embarrassment of riches when it came to artists, but relied too heavily on too few good writers - Alan Grant, John Wagner, sometimes Pat Mills {although his ideas were usually better than their execution}, and later Alan Moore. By the early 80’s, when Halo Jones first appeared, the writing on the mainstay strips - Dredd, Strontium Dog, Sam Slade, Rogue Trooper etc.- was getting a little shopworn, and the lure of American dollars was starting to pull the decent writers away, and no real replacements had been groomed: there were no “break out” new strips since Slaine, and the old characters were getting repetitive.

Love some Halo Jones myself

Transvision Vamp also had a Halo Jones song chorus was
I’m hanging out with Halo Jones
So don’t call round 'cos I won’t be home
I’m hanging out with Halo Jones
Hanging out with Halo Jones
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah!

Does anyone no the name of the 200AD story series that had a monster under Stone Henge that got released when stonehenge was knocked down?

The Mind Of Wolfie Smith, and it wasn’t actually Stonehenge, it was another stone circle that was destroyed - by a bulldozer-driving B-movie horror director intent on finishing his masterwork, despite numerous warnings that this would unleash an Ancient Evil. The ancient evil was named the Wendigore.

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals,
Everybody’s happy as the dead come home.
Big black Nemesis, parthenogenesis,
No one moves a muscle as the dead come home

I may have heard of them.

Quote White Out or Suck and then you’ll impress me.

OK, caught me. I only have Oil and Gold. (Do I still count as half a fan anyway  )
