Hamburgers: what do you like on em

How were Pickles not a choice on this list?

It always occurred to me that if you took the topping off a burger and ate them separately, it would make for the weirdest salad.

Either ketchup, mustard and cheddar cheese, or just A-1 Sauce.

As in the hot dog thread, I like all of the poll choices, but in different combinations.

I also love hamburgers smothered in

*chili and topped with cheddar cheese, onions, and hot sauce;

*barbecue sauce (I just polished off a bottle of Jack Daniel’s brand);

*A-1, HP, or Heinz 57 sauce;

*tomato-based hamburger relish;

*cheddar or American cheese and bacon;

*Swiss cheese and sauteed mushrooms and onions.

Cheese, bacon, barbecue sauce, pickles

One of the little BBQ places that I go to has homegrown tomatoes for sale. The owner’s brother or cousin grows them, and the owner sells them. The price is a bit steep, but they are SOOOO good.

I cannot grow things to save my life. I keep trying. This year I started out with about 18 tomato plants, and right now I’ve got two. I hope that this year, I can get some tomatoes that I grew myself.

I like almost anything on a hamburger, so long as they’re not all on there at once.

Bacon, red onions, swiss cheese, and ranch dressing.

I like every kind of condiment on my burger. Not on the above list: BBQ sauce, pickles, relish, ranch dressing, cheese, whatever. Everything on the OP’s list can go on the burger at once, and more! I love a messy, drippy burger, 5 Guys style. I can’t remember the last burger I had. I need to send my husband off to the butcher shop 3 blocks away… too bad they won’t be open again until Tuesday.

Mayo and onion only, if you please.

Gah, I can’t believe the most voted on option is onion. Onion is gross. :stuck_out_tongue:

My “other” includes cheese (although it’s certainly not required - in fact, I prefer no cheese to bad cheese) and mushrooms. Mmm, mushrooms.

Got to have onion. My usual order at The Hat is no tomato, extra onion. The only reason I ask for no tomato is that The Hat serves tomato slices that rival their fries in size. An inch thick tomato slice totally unbalances the burger, so I have them leave it off.

Ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce; if I’m eating out, cheese. Not onions; I hate onions on burgers.

I agree that tomato makes a burger unstable. It also ruins the texture with its mushiness while rarely adding much flavor.

Why didn’t the poll include cheese? I can’t recall the last time I had a burger without cheese.

Cheese, mayo, mustard, pickles, onion. Bacon and mushrooms are good too. Since I’m diabetic I don’t eat the bun.

Whenever we eat at The Counter I have a large burger in a bowl, on top of mixed greens, spinach, lettuce blend, black olives, onions, sliced hard-boiled egg, sprouts, dill pickle chips with mayo and Roasted Garlic Aioli sauce on the side. It’s the only place in the city I can eat every bit of dinner and not throw anything away.

Red onions and burgers go together like… like a positive metaphor. Relish is good, too. And I’ll sometimes take tomatoes/lettuce if they’re there, just because they’re there.

I despise ketchup. It occupies a prominent spot on my Food Axis of Evil. Can’t stand even being next to someone eating it.

Just like a Carl’s Jr. Old Time Star - ketchup, mustard, dill pickles and onion.

Burger weighing at least half a pound, 80/20 chuck.

Dusted with Montreal Steak Seasoning, a dash of liquid smoke and a little freshly grated horseradish.

Cooked on an incredibly hot wood-fired grill.

Pittsburgh rare - that is so rare on the inside a giood vet could bring it back around and cooked nicely on the outside.

Placed onto a toasted kaiser roll.

Add leaf lettuce, two thin slices of tomato and carmelized onions.

No mayo, ketchup or other saucy garbage - the burger’s juices are good enough.

This is perfection, kiddies. Do try it at home…

Actually, the last time I tried a rare burger, I found that it was less flavorful than a medium rare one. It seems to me that you do need some amount of maillard to bring beef to its optimum level. Too red and it doesn’t really taste like much.

I voted for almost all toppings. But we need BBQ sauce in lieu of catsup.
Oh, and relish.
