Well, I’m curious about something: how could CG go for two-and-a-half years here (and close to 600 posts) without knowing the answers to every single question he asked in this and the ATMB threads? General cluelessness (which might be forgiven), or did he actively work towards ignorance?

I believe the correct colloquialism for “holy war” is jihad, although that term has suffered much in the translation. A “fatwah” is I believe a death sentence or a call for the death of a person. For example, a fatwah was declared on Salmon Rushdie after the publication of “The Satanic Verses.”
Not being Islamic, I may be mistaken and certainly may be incorrect in the connotative qualities of these two words.
I believe a fatwah is a religious ruling issued by a Muslim cleric. The ruling could concern anything that would have bearing on the moral decisions a muslim must make.
