handy's drive-by posting: just stop already!

Would you prefer that everyone who’s been pissed off by handy start a separate Pit Thread?

Bah, this is hardly a pile on. It is about a specific set of behaviour in specific places. I daresay few would care if handy was handy IMHO or MPSIMS or even Cafe.

The first is explanatory for a period of behaviour and makes sense if he so clearly has ignored past corrections. He repeats erroneous info even after he’s been corrected. Everything about his pattern over time says #2.

There’s cutting slack and there’s willful blindness.

Yes, he is what he is, and so were peace and others. There’s no inherent contradiction.

With respect and fondness DDG, please check out the link I provided. In that thread, it was clear that ** handy** was aware that the cite he was quoting from had an agenda, yet he made references to the information from that cite without providing the cite, adding instead that the info came from the fbi, thus lending it even more legitimacy.

So, I respectfully submit to you that certainly in that case, he had reason to know beforehand that there was something amiss with the information he was presenting, yet denied us the source so we could see for ourselves that it was basically coming from racists-R-us.com, AND compounded the problem by saying the data came from the fbi.

Rather than gaze upon handy’s somewhat annoying past, we should all be patting this guy on the back for researching and properly citing what he says.

Right on, bro!

Oh, I forgot that he probably isn’t going to read this.

Which is an unfortunate thing. The fact of the matter is that a string of thoughtful, well-documented posts, backed by his monstrous post-count, could actually give him an air of legitimacy and authority which he regrettably does not have right now.

I for one hope that handy will turn things around and start being a helpful contributor to these boards, rather than an occasional low-level annoyance. He’s got the time and (in this instance) the inclination to be a font of knowledge. Perhaps all he needs is our encouragement.

No, I mentioned it because sometimes it’s useless. It feels like a pile on because Handy refuses to come in, so that’s the problem.

FWIW, I agree with most people-I find Handy annoying and childish.

GLYARGHGHGHGLDLGHLLLGGGGGGG! (Inarticulate howl).

thank you. I needed to do that.

Qadgop, if it makes you feel any better, I’m pretty sure that 99% (if not 100%) of the people who have been paying attention to this whole “handy styles himself an expert on when to prescribe antibiotics” fiasco, are well aware that handy is being an idiotic ass who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Not that this is much different from usual.

Qadgop, if it’s any consolation (maybe it’s not) as far as I’ve ever seen you’re the first person to prompt handy to actually do some research to back up his assertions. (Though Lynn’s threat to ban him probably had a lot to do with it.) OK, it wasn’t very good research, but it looked like a start.

I had a momentary glimmer of hope that it might have signaled a change in behavior. However, handy’s subsequent responses both in that thread and one in ATMB indicate he still hasn’t bought a clue.

To tell you the truth, I don’t really know what’s worse - having handy do drive-bys, and never come back to the scene of the crime, or have him come back and argue pointlessly about something he clearly knows nothing about.

Well let’s see:

Where he claims OCD is caused by environment.

And here:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=95359

(rocking quietly in corner, muttering)
“Detach with compassion, detach with compassion. Principles over personalities. There’s no point in letting someone live rent-free in my head. It takes all kinds, it’s a wonderful world that has so many unique people in it.”

OK, better now.

Although the post I’m about to make is entirely handy-like in his drive by fashion, I have to state that the brilliance of the following:

cannot go unrecognized.

What is the saying about not criticizing someone until you’ve walked in their shoes? At least once it has been stated that being deaf is not an excuse. I disagree. I have not walked in a deaf persons shoes, but for 15 years I had at least 1 deaf person working for me at any given time and learned a few things that I wouldn’t have known about being deaf. The workers I dealt with may not have gotten as good of an education as Handy, but I think this will still apply. They have not been able to communicate the same way we have and I know that their thought processes differ from ours. I am not in any way saying it is inferior, just that it works different. I should also say that this only applies to people that have been deaf since birth. Think Now did your thoughts have any words floating around them? Well, deaf people don’t have words floating around their thoughts and in many cases their vocabulary is fairly limited, but if they use words in thought it must be written words. In Handy’s case he doesn’t seem to have a limited vocabulary, but he has never heard an idea expressed in words. I suspect Handy has found a way of being different on SDMB, which to me is better than his not posting because of the fear of being different.

Being deaf does not excuse posting incorrect information, misleading information, or useless GQ posts.

kniz: Please don’t tell me that you’ve bought into handy’s “oh poor me I’m deaf” line of bullshit. There are other deaf posters here and they don’t have this problem.

p.s. Please read the below until you understand:

Ah, but in this thread, Handy describeds himself as a “post-lingually late-deafened adult.”

The website for the Association of Late-Deafened Adults states that:

Thus, Handy has certainly had ideas that are expressed in words. In any event, while I am sympathetic to Handy’s hearing loss, I fail to see how that explains his particular posting style.

Hmmm. This word doesn’t know what tense it wants to be in.

Okay, I officially give up, too.

His latest contribution to the “Medical Advice” thread in ATMB is enough to send my head spinning, and it’s good that I married a Doper so I don’t let handy drag down my opinion of all of you.

Jag älskar dej, Anniz.

Any room in that corner, QtM?

:bangs head against wall repeatedly:

Move over, Montfort

Wham…wham…wham…wham…

I probably should have known this. It is why I put in the fact that what I said applied to those you were born deaf.
So much for that thought.
