Hanging up the cardigan...

As I may have mentioned, Mr. Rilch is away right now, in Pittsburgh, where we’re from, working on a film. Pittsburgh is also where Mr. Rogers is filmed. Mr. Rilch told me this, then I asked him to verify it, since I didn’t want to start a net rumor: Mr. Rogers is going off the air in October. I don’t know the actual last airdate, but it’s definitely ending.

Just so y’all know.

Forget Mr. Rogers. Come back, Pee Wee Herman!

sobs

I watched that show every day when I was little. That, Sesame Street, Electric Company, and 321 Contact when I got older.

Farewell, neighbor. We’ll miss you.

I always did like Pee Wee’s Playhouse better than Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood. “Look, it’s my giant underpants!”

Ummmm,…

Not that I’m trying to denegrade a lifetimes work entertaining generations of little kids, but Mr. R, from the time I became “aware” as a person, really creeped me out.

Maybe it was the strange pleasure he took performing the part of “Meow-meow kitty”. Maybe it was the horrifing features of Lady Elaine Fairchild. Maybe it was his fey personality, perhaps it’s an amalgam of all these, but Mr. Rodgers doesn’t quite fit as well in the twenty-first century with all of it’s child protection laws as well as he did in the more innocent 60’s and 70’s.

Sorry, had to be said.

Bummer. Major bummer.

I always thought it was cool that my daughter enjoys some of the same children’s programming that I did when I was her age. Now she’s going to lose one. Makes me sad. :frowning:

Yeah, and watch, he’ll die after the last episode is shot but before it’s aired. Like Schulz.
