You’re right, it’s not a laughing matter.
Thank you.
huh ? can someone fill me in ?
Hanse Cronje was a South African cricket player who died in a plane crash a couple of days ago. He was most well known for being disgraced after it was found that he had been match-fixing.
Hansie Cronje was the much beloved captain of the South African Cricket team - he was a role-model for South Africans of all races and backgrounds and was an outspoken Christian, widely regarded as a moral and upstanding individual.
All this shattered when he was accused of bribe-taking and match fixing, charges which he at first denied. Later - in return for immunity from prosecution - he admitted that he had taken money from bookkeepers and approaching team-mates to play beneath their abilities, but still denied throwing a game himself or deliberately playing beneath his abilities. He was banned from cricket for life, although was recently allowed to do some limited development coaching.
He died over the weekend in an airplane accident in the mountains near George, South Africa. Sadly, it is the dishonesty and lies for which he will be remembered rather than his leadership on the field, calmness under pressure and his slog-sweep into the stands…

There will inevitably be “Hansie” jokes - not here I hope
Gp
Is this one of those threads where the OP goes missing or am I missing out on something?
