I definitely agree with “Feelin’ Groovy” and pretty much anything by TMBG. Some others:
“Mayor of Simpleton” - XTC
“Beautiful Queen” - Robyn Hitchcock
“Runnin Down a Dream” - Tom Petty
“When Smokey Sings” - ABC
Good stuff, all!

There are no words, but it never fails to make me smile…
the Allman Bros. “Jessica”.
Someone told me that it was written in response to the author watching his daughter take her first steps. I can believe it
i forgot to mention in my previous contribution Moxy Fruvous’ “King of Spain”
most definitely worth checking out if you’ve never heard it.

Why has no one here mentioned Ray Stevens?
C’mon he’s funny. In The Mood, Surfin USSR, The Streak, It’s Me Again Margaret all are wonderful pick me ups I find.
Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay
ellis! I love you! Someone else who’s heard of these guys!! “Once I was the king of Spain…” Also, their “My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors” rocks.
“I like to go out dancing
My baby loves a bunch of authors
We’ve been living in hovels
Spendin’ all my money on…brand new novels.”
As for other funny songs…anything by TMBG, although “Ana Ng” is the one going through my head right now. Maybe because on the conference I’m currently working on, there’s a person going named “Agnes Ng.” I’ll have to try not to laugh hysterically when I register her.
As for songs that make me happy: I’ll second “Feeling Groovy,” and add “Closer to Fine,” by the Indigo Girls. I just remember my last day of college, standing on the main building’s balcony with my two best friends, SCREAMING the line “Spent four years prostrate to the higher mind, got my paper and I was FREE!!”
Happy songs:
Walkin on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves
I feel by Madonna
My Sharrona by… uh, oh, brain cramp. I can’t remember.
Funny Songs:
anything by Weird Al, Ray Stevens, They Might Be Giants, or played by Dr. Demento.

[WARNING - MOOD KILLER]
Except that Cropper finished the song knowing that Redding had just died in a 'plane crash. [/mood killer]
Take the Skinheads Bowling CamperVan Beethoven
chrisbar:
The Knack.
Second on “Take the Skinheads Bowling” and “The Mayor of Simpleton.”
A lot of 80s music cheers me up, like JoBoxers “Just Got Lucky,” or Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ “Come On Eileen.” Even Nena’s “99 Luftballons” (the German version) makes me smile, which is an odd reaction, I suppose, to a song about nuclear armageddon caused by some balloons confusing a radar system…
The only R.E.M. song that cheers me up: “The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite” off Automatic for the People.
Oh, I’d forgotten about “Mr. Blue Sky,” and that’s one of my favorite ridiculously cheery tunes! I don’t get “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” as a happy song; it’s always seemed like the singer is desperately depressed to me.
For a lift-you-up tune, there’s Aretha’s “Think” or her wonderfully hopeful “I Say a Little Prayer” (leaves all other versions in the dust).
