It’s my 18th birthday. Really, no great milestone, in functional terms. I can drive in New Jersey after midnight now, which I’m going to take full advantage of tonight - party with friends, then staying out as late as I want to. And one less year until I can legally go into a bar, I guess.

Not true…you can vote, and you can reigster for Selective Service.
Ok, after conferring with my wife, you do not have to register with Selective Service (assuming the “Chick” part of your username means what I think it means).
Huh…you couldn’t before? Last I was aware, it was: permit at 16.5 (meaning you had to have a licensed driver with at least three years behind the wheel with you), and full, unrestricted license at 17. My, how times change.
Anyway, happy birthday! 
True, I’m excited about being able to vote, and no Selective Service for me.
Driving: Permit at 16, limited license (1 non-immediate-family passenger only, no driving between midnight-six AM) at 17, unlimited license at 18.

They just changed the laws recently - a lot of my friends two years older than me were ‘grandfathered’ out. And, as I alluded to, the laws aren’t always followed, cuz, see, it’s only illegal if you get caught, and in order to get caught you need to be pulled over for something else…
(which makes me realize that my late night trips going 85 down a local highway [speed limit 55] may have been dumb…)
