Happy Doper Milestones thread

Enlighten my ignorance. What’s 26.2? (Besides, obviously, 26 and two tenths; at least in decimal.)

Something to do with running a marathon. But I think the point is, Kaylasdad99 wasn’t being truthful about his birth date when he signed up.

Typically the stickers are white ovals with black writing to look like the stickers from countries people are typically from. Example, a sticker with just a “D” are for Deutschland, for Germany.

26.2 stickers are for people who typically have completed a full marathon.
13.1 stickers are for people who typically have completed a half marathon.

My husband and I moved into this house, our first and only property, 20 years ago tomorrow (October 1). Over the years we have transformed it, with a new kitchen and bath upstairs, added 750 sq. ft. of official living space downstairs, made a garden paradise (well, a garden anyway) out of a back yard made of dirt (when we moved in) and weeds (after the winter rains). It is the place we want to live for as long as possible.

Close. A few weeks ago I decided to start changing my profile every day to get birthday cakes from the board software.

I also wanted to see if when it coincided with my Doperversary, I’d get both cakes. Turns out that, yeah, I did.

Finally, I was curious to see how long it could last before Dopers caught on and called me out on it.

So, well done @GESancMan, and congratulations! Time for me to visit my profile and revert the birthday back to May.

@Bullitt and @GESancMan

Thanks, both of you.

TIL.

ETA:

Congrats!

And mine was: 0.0, with the subscript “I’m good”.

That’s something to be proud of! Congratulations.

Me, I was happy when I unloaded my house. Not that I didn’t love the garden I created or my color scheme inside. But I could no longer work the garden myself (steep yard, back issues) and the house had issues. I had never intended to stay as long as I did. So long to it.

My goodness, what a trip down memory lane this thread is.

Just like how I first found this forum back in 1999, a search for something (back then, for the largest city park in the world [it wasn’t what I thought it was] today, for the history of Mercurochrome and Merthiolate) returned a Cecil Adams column in the results, which got me to check this place out for the first time in forever.

I guess to stay on topic, tomorrow will be the 22nd Halloween that @Spiny_Norman and I will be celebrating as a happily married couple.

BOO :ghost:

My milestone of note at present is that this Friday, November 1, marks the 10th anniversary of my first day of retirement. My last day of work, aptly enough, was Halloween.

Though this is a happy enough milestone, at times like this some of my thoughts rest on mortality. If family history is anything to go by, and considering my current state of health, I may have 12 to 15 years left. I hope it is not much more than that, I don’t relish the idea of being ancient; but it would be a nice dig at my former employers, to be pulling my pension for as long as possible. Neener, neener.

Congrats!

Stick around, why don’tcha?

Thanks, @needscoffee! Maybe. Everything good with you these days?

All’s good. We could use some new or returning blood around here, though. Our demographic is getting a little long in the tooth (on average).

Thanks, needscoffee. At 63, I don’t exactly bring the average age down though. :joy: I’ve been gone so long, I keep forgetting to come back here and check. I’ll try to do better. Namaste :pray:t3:

Bomb Bay Doors is finishing his bachelor’s in cybersecurity this week and starting as a cybersecurity engineer for a government contractor next week, making more than I do and with better benefits. Suffice it to say that Airman Doors, USAF and I are extremely proud of him for what he has accomplished.

That’s awesome.

Congratulations to @Bomb_Bay_Doors and @Airman_Doors_USAF and you! Congratulations all around!

I’m retired now but I’m reminded that my very first job out of college was for a government contractor working on satellite software and systems (since it looks like you’re a USAF family, it was at Onizuka AFS in ‘the blue cube’, for the USAFSCN ➜ BLM ES GLO Record of the Week May 15, 2022 StoryMap - Onizuka Air Force Station ■ ).

Anyway that’s a little backstory and the part I’m trying to get to is that I remember being very underpaid! My salary there was $31,500, in March 1992. Looking back, I was laughably underpaid but it was a start and we were happy with it. Clearly things have changed, much for the better! So congratulations on the accomplishment and I’m foreseeing that cybersecurity will be a field much in demand for a long time to come!

And thank you for enabling my little trip down memory lane

I can share a bit of a milestone; I started a new job this week. Y’all will never guess what I’m going to be working on.

I’m guessing that’s a robot arm?
