Happy Fun 2010 Primary Thread

Perhaps Specter will join the Greens to run in the general election.

I agree with flickster. Goodbye and good riddance. I really hope Sestak can do as well come November.

And not only did Blanche Lincoln fail to get 50%, but her plurality over Halter was only about 6500 votes out of ~300K cast. Runoff in 3 weeks. This one’s a race, baby!

Four for four!!!

And now the Dems, who had apparently held off on this move to increase Lincoln’s chances to win the primary, are getting ready to pull her tough measure on derivatives from the Wall Street regulation bill. I’m not happy with them over that, but that’s not gonna help Lincoln over the next few weeks.

Wow, AP goes with the “all politics is National” meme, and declares a blowout for the anti-incumbent tea party express:

That’s some powerful narrative there!

Have the Democrats lost any of the Special elections for House seats since 2008? I feel like this is the sixth or seventh in a row that’s gone their way.

ETA: Glancing at wikipedia, they apparently won five out of five for House seat elections in '09

It was also a big night for 80’s Rock:

I’d’ve gone with Freewill, myself.

The Nation has a fairly optimistic (for liberals) take on the primary results.

I saw Paul on Rachel Maddow tonight. IMO, he is headed for a monumental loss in the general election. He believes privately owned businesses should be able should be able to serve or not serve customers on any basis they wish. IOW, whites-only restaurants should be legal, though he also believes it would be a very poor business decision.

He managed to weasel out of explicitly saying this, but his intent is clear. He compared it to a Federal mandate to force restaurant owners to allow people to carry weapons into their establishments. And there is a tangential relationship related to property rights between the two. But this guy is just not going to survive electoral politics.

Yeah and ignore McDonald, Brown, Christie. Yeah they don’t matter…

Its been the day of the extreme wings of both parties triumphing.

Anybody know when upcoming primaries are scheduled and the races to watch?

2010 Primary Elections by State (pdf).

For particular races, Politics1.com is always a good source. Go to State/Federal Candidates.

Looks like the next interesting batch of primaries will be the primaries in California and Nevada on June 8. The GOP has action in both Senate races and CA-Gov; the Dems, CA-Gov only.

A considerable number of other states list June 8 as a primary day, but unless there are some contested House primaries going on that day, I don’t think there’s anything of interest outside of CA and NV in June. (Or July for that matter, since July tends to be a quiet month for primaries.)

Colorado and Connecticut on August 10, and Arizona on August 24, should make August interesting.

Isn’t the Arkansas run-off between Lincoln and Halter June 8th, also? THAT is certainly what I would call interesting.

It is - can’t believe I forgot. And the NC-Sen runoff is a week or two later.

It looks like Montana’s primaries are on the 8th, too, but there’s not much there of interest. I haven’t heard of anyone but Rehberg (the incumbent) running for the House seat, and it’s an off-year for our senators. The only campaigning of any sort I’ve seen is for more local races, like the state legislature.
