Y’all knew I had to go to work today so you left it for me, didn’t you? Okay, then, I’ll start it.
Here’s a bit of hilarity for you guys today (especially Bobbio): Mark Trail is insinuating that there are eco-terrorists in Eastern NC. I’ve you’ve ever been there, you’ll know why this is so funny.
Glad I checked - I was just about to post a new MMP, since **Spidey **apparently didn’t come thru! 
I never read Mark Trail - it was one of those “serious” comics, like Mary Worth, so it was beneath my notice. And all I know of eastern NC is that I-95 cuts thru, so the eco-terrorists can do their thing and I’d never notice.
It’s still early, but I’ve packed a lunch for my sweetie and sent him on his way, breakfasted, and caffeinated. If the rain holds off, I’ll haul the trash and recycling today. And I might make an apple cake, just because.

Later this week, we’ll close out another calendar. If you’re really cheap, you can save it & reuse it again because if have 11 or 12 calendars, you have one for every possible combination for 100+ years (for whatever reason, you don’t need seven different ones for leap years). In this day & age, how many people still use wall calendars vs. an app on their phone? (I actually gave out calendars this year, but only because I’m Mr. January {at least my photo is the January picture}).
I’m not a NYE person, I don’t get it; stay up late to watch midnight & throw out an old calendar & replace it with a new one, drink way too much on too little sleep. No, I don’t like to go on Amateur Night, specifically because there’s a reason they call it Amateur Night. However, on Thursday, we will head down south for our annual ‘vacation’ of sun (hopefully), sand, & surf. I’m inviting any Mumper (or Doper) close enough to come join us, either in person, or at your local watering hole/ocean. You see, in this case, “down south” is South Jersey, specifically to Atlantic City :eek:

I am now showered and dressed. I’ve got a bit over an hour to kill before I can go to the convenience center, so I’ll get a few chores done around here, then load the truck and go. It’s raining a bit - as long as it doesn’t pour, I don’t mind hauling the trash in the wet. We’ll see how that goes.
And to answer Spidey’s slightly late OP, we mostly ignore NYE/NYD. We went to parties on occasion when we were younger and living in FL. These days, we’re usually asleep long before midnight. Just another day, you know.

Irk has started off with a bang and livin’ up to its name. One person got hurt over Christmas. One person caught what sounds like the plague over Christmas. Plus a couple of the usual calls about timesheets which caused me to give The Speach.

Good morning, all. Walked to the bus stop under a pretty sunrise after an unhurried morning because I was all adult and shit last night and packed today’s lunch and reminder notes plus got my hair washed, so this morning was calm and leisurely.
In an hour, I’ll be signed in and @ my desk, and things will no longer be calm and leisurely, I bet!

It’s a grey 36 degree day.
I need to start irking on Moonday and Toosday mornings but it is hard to get motivated. Today is also make lots of phone calls day. Always a thrill.
No NYE traditions for me. Some years I go out, some years I stay home. No special NYD foods for luck. One of my friends invites people over to talk about what we want to change the coming year, get our cards/runes read, have some snacks, etc. It’s an open house kind of thing where people come and go. It’s fun but now a two hour drive. I have to think about it and next year after I’m settled in I may play hostess.
Swampy, you’re in Jawja, home of, “Hey y’all, hold my beer & watch this!” Surely at least one of your participants got a new pair of interconnected bracelets after imbibin’ & hangin’ with the relations for the holiday. You’re telling me they all made bail by this morning? :

My son got a few Dominoes $20 gift cards for xmas. Yesterday we ordered pizza and tried to use one of the cards and it wasn’t accepted. I was getting the message that there was $0 on the card. I know my niece didn’t just pick up a card and walk out of the store with it. I know somebody in her house didn’t use the card and then wrap it up for my son. I thought maybe at the checkout the card wasn’t activated properly.
I called the 800 number on the back of the card and checked the balance - $20.
Si I called the store and asked if there is a problem with the website.
No, there is no problem with the website, it simply will not accept cards when the balance is less than the amount of the order.
I said,so I can’t use the card to pay for $20 of the order and use my credit card for the balance? The guy said we could try and it worked. I got two separate receipts though, one for the gift card and one for my credit card.
How f’ed up is that though? So if I use part of the balance and have a few bucks left on a card I can’t use it on another order? Do all those little bits of leftover money have to be lost?
We still have cards from last year that I couldn’t get accepted through the website. I’ll have to check the balances on them.
Looks like Dominoes can make quite a bit of money by having the site say there is $0 on the card. A lot of people probably think they already used the card and will throw it away.
Up, caffeinated, off work. I need to do laundry and buy cat food before the game.
Maybe he thought by building a mine in the swamp, he could attract a girl with huge…tracts of land?
Spidey, my NYE traditions invovle watching hockey. Except I’m working till midnight this yar, so I get to play “dodge a drunk” on the way home.

Happy Monday!
I am back from visiting the family down south, and with me has come a nasty chest cold. I’m home sick from work, guzzling cough and cold meds, and napping every so often. My asthma is not happy with the chest cold. 
NYE – I don’t do much. I stay home, read a book in front of the fireplace, hang out with the cats. I pop some sparkling wine if I’m up at midnight, but I often don’t even manage to stay up that late. Nothing special for NYD, either, though I’ll make a nice meal at some point. (Ah, the joys of being single and doing whatever you damn well please!)

We do a BBQ most years with a few friends. The usual is steak for late lunch, pork for a later supper and shrimp at midnight. It’s a great excuse for me to fire up the smoker and keep it stoked for 12 straight hours. Once or twice we’ve cancelled that to head up the Valley; the plans there are always a group dinner out somewhere.
Trash and recycling has been dispatched and grocerying has been accomplished, except I forgot to get a couple of boxes of tissues, dammit! It’s not a crisis yet - I still have an unopened box, but I like to have 3 or 4 on hand. Next time…
Lunch is leftover pasta bake from last night. Supper will be the poke tenderloin I picked up at the used meat counter. And I’ve still got to get some sketty sauce cooking. Busy busy…
