Happy New Year.

Death toll for U.S. troops in Iraq: 3000. Happy New Year.

And a hearty ‘Fuck you!’ to ring it in with! Fuck you very much…

<Lame ass pitting btw, regardless of your stance on the whole Iraq thing…you need to try a bit harder in future, ehe?>

Not trying to do the Pit of the year. On my second vodka. Just felt like sharing, and figured Pit was only appropriate place.

::hic::

However, I do think you should not post with virtually no comment.

I think Rilchaim’s OP was just enough. Link, plus sardonic addition. I got the intended drift.

And 3000 lives, whichever way it’s looked at, is a terrible price to pay. :frowning:

No, it’s not the price, it’s the lack of any goods we got for it. IIRC we lost more on D-Day, but that was to advance a goal. The occupation of Iraq has just been a drain on our economy, our soldiers, and our standing in the world community. In return we have gotten jack.

Sorry, a little research showed that Allied dead for D-Day are estimated at 2500.

Heckuva job!

So how many dead Iraqis equal one dead American, exactly?

That’s a very low estimate indeed. I’d guess fifty, at the present exchange rate.

I’ve got more party favors to send this horrible year off properly.

You can’t make this shit up!

Yes, I sat by the fireside tonite talking to one of my sons’ friends, an Army soldier fresh from Afghanistan. He ships back out in a few days.

Our son ships out to Fallujiah in January.

I wish i could … belive that they were hanging their lives out there for a greater purpose.

But, they are not.
God speed my boys.

How many more years does Bush have in office?

Two. We’re counting them down as well.

Everybody is.

Unfortunately, not everybody.

On another message board where I post, there is a large group of people who still believe that Bush is a great president. They would vote for him again if he could run for a third term. To say the war was a mistake is to insult the 3000 who died. The reason the dems won so many seats in the last election is directly attributable to the liberal media bias, which misrepresents the war in Iraq and helps cause the insurgency, because it makes them look successful. They still think it’s the height of hilarity to make jokes based on “I voted for it before I voted against it.”

It is beyond my comprehension, but it is true.

With the Nation mourning Gerald Ford, the various news programs have been showing clips of his quotes.
When they showed this…

“My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over”.

I flashed forward to November 4, 2008.

For some reason, I keep hearing an angry Judd Nelson saying, “Oh, it was a banner fucking year at the old America family. I got 3000 dead soldiers. The President grabbed me and said, “Hey, Mission Accomplished, Johnny.” Alright? So go home and cry to your Daddy. Don’t cry here, okay?”

Won’t our nightmare be truly over on January 20, 2009?
