Happy Saint Patrick's Day

Erin Go Bragh!!

Mr. AFG and I can forget about getting into an Irish pub tonight, though. Every one in town is packed to the gills on St. Paddy’s. :frowning:

Well I’m off to Lille, France in a few hours to listen to a Welshman sing a few tunes which is ok seeing as Paddy himself was a Welsh lad

I’m wearing my Mayo Gaelic football shirt which I picked up last year when I was at a match. I think it’s green enough. I’ll also be playing my Gary Moore and Thin Lizzy all day. Then when I get home, since there are no good pubs within crawling distance, I’ve me Smithwick’s and Harp at home.

Look! Google a wearin’ the green today.

Well these seem appropriate today:

" Being Irish, my enduring sense of human tragedy sustains me through temporary bouts of joy. " W. B. Yeats

and, of course;

“The great Gaels of Ireland,
are the men that God made mad.
For all their wars are merry,
and all their songs are sad.”

My Irish grandfather used to tell me, every St Patty’s Day, “There’s two kinds of people in the world, people who are Irish, and people who wish they were Irish.”

Now, let’s head to the parade grounds…

Well, as they they say, “The milk of the cow is alright the calf, but the juice of the barly for me.”

Ah, St. Patrick’s Day. The day where a bunch of pasty white people with beer guts dress up in a color no one looks good in and try to get people to kiss them.

In order to get more in touch with my local Irish community, I will spend this evening talking jibberish loudly, drink shitty beer, and hit on people way too young for me.

It’ll be great!

Anybody in Toronto want to meet up for a pint of Guinness?

Kyth, who can legitimately claim Irish roots, for her grandparents came from Dublin

I’m wearing orange. Bloody papists.

To recognize the day, I will try to make Irish soda bread, curse loudly when it (as usual) comes out rock hard and inedible, then throw it out in the back yard for the birds.

I’m just back from the pub now. *Damn * that was fun.

Now I’m going to leave, because posting drunk is a bad idea.

Hope those who partied had a fun (and safe) time tonight!

[Dr. Wierd]GENTLEMEN! Let the drinking… BEGIN![/Dr. W]

Antigen- had? What do you mean had? I know that, at least as far as I’m concerned, the partying is still going on. I’ve still got half a bottle of Jameson left. Can’t let it go unfinished!

I am full o’ shepherd’s pie and blarney! And music! Saw Seelie Court at the pub tonight on the second leg of their St. Pat’s Day tour (they did a gig this afternoon, one this evening, and will playing all night somewhere else yet!) and got lots o’ hugs and kisses. Even though I’m Italian, I have a nice Irish name thanks to my husband. Which makes our daughter half-Gaelic and half-Garlic.

wooo-hoooo!

snerk

I love that. And I share the same heritage, with various bits of other nationalities thrown in. But mostly Irish and Italian.

Apparently, that means it’s actually St. Pasta’s day…

Add me to the birthday toast, willya?

Add me to the birthday toast, willya?

Okay, but only once!

Well the days almost over for me, but since it was my birtday as well, I’d like to send out a happy one to the other dopers whe share this day with me!

Slainte!

Sweetums

Irishfella and I met some of our friends for a few in the pub… it happened to be a Russian bar, but hey, it was quieter than most of Dublin, and the Black Russians (with a Guinness head) were flowing freely.

Then back to our flat where I made steaks with an Irish whisky and cream sauce and roasted potato wedges. All ingredients 100% Irish, and much nicer than stew!

I am recovering at home today, sadly irishfella had to go to work, although his boss did call last night to check if he wanted to book Friday as a sick day-what a nice man!

I made Irish soda bread too, and it came out a little bit dry, but not too hard. It was my first attempt, and I’d call it an overall success.

Happy belated St. Patrick’s Day birthdays to Spree, LeeshaJoy, and Sweetums!
