Happy Texas Independence Day!

…y’all!

Damn straight!

And welcome, to a fellow Texan!

You say “cheesy” like that’s a BAD thing.

Wow since im in Dallas on business, will there be any festivals or anything (hopefully not including the lynching of a yankee)?

Voted Biggest Smartass by all you beautiful people!

You always use violence. I should’ve ordered glutinous rice chicken.

Well, Burn, come on over here, and I’ll show you a festival or two.

Damn!! I forgot to fly my Texas flag!!
Although I am an expatriate Texan, I do it mostly because it annoys my next door neighbor who is a staunch New Englander.

As the late Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock used to say:

“God Bless Texas.”

Here here! Drinks are on me! (well, not literally…)

The Alamo?

Furgeddaboudit.

Voted as the poster you’d most like to meet.

I demand a recount.

Wow between you and Chef i will have a lot to say about Texas hospitality.

Musings of an expatriate Texan, stuck in Missouri and, soon, the (yuck!) East Coast.
What do I miss about the Lone Star State?

  1. “No guns allowed” signs in restraunts, banks, churches, etc. An ex-girlfriend, on her first trip to the Motherland, pointed to one and laughed. She got real quiet when I told her it weren’t no joke.
  2. Bait shops advertising “beer ‘n’ ammo.” Love those.
  3. Ocean breezes, pine trees, deserts and rolling hills, all within a few-hour drive.
  4. Yankee tourists wearing sandals with long black socks.
  5. Real country music, not that canned Garth Brooks crapola.
And, Wally … remember the Alamo!

Boy are you in for some culture shock!!
Happened to me about 16 years ago.
New England is a neat place but it sure do take some gettin used to!!

What impresses me about the “No Guns Allowed” sign is that there are people who would honor such a request.

If life were always like this…if they took your guns and left this stuff…we’d live a lot better.

Rilchiam, it’s because of the concealed handgun law. It’s legal, with a permit, to carry a concealed handgun, however certain places are off limits. The aformentioned spots being the key ones. And bars.

So you had better honor the “request”, because if not you can get your license revoked, pay a heavy fine, and go to jail.

Well, that’s what I meant, Irishman. In LA, most people carry concealed, and most do so illegally. Taking your gun off/out would be admitting that you were carrying, leaving it in your car would be foolhardy, to say the least, and putting up such a sign would be asking to be shot. It sounds like Texas has the right idea; armed people behave more sensibly when they know everyone else is armed, too.

I’m okay with the independence thing as long as y’all don’t come over here and invade Louisiana.

Louisiana? Tell you what: give us your oil, natural gas, and shrimp (i.e., southern LA), and we’ll let you keep… Shreveport.
