… to all my fellow Canadian dopers! Any year we get by without the country breaking up is a good year. (Although I was sorely tried by Stockwell Day on a jet ski.)
(Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a turkey to stuff.)

To you too! I had supper part one last night, and now it’s the continued version with my grandparents. Hope you all enjoy your meals, and remember what Thanksgiving is really about.
I did Mr. turkey lurkey Saturday and Sunday nites, yum!!
And I bet Mr. turkey lurkey is smiling now!
I had enought ham at bro&sis-in-laws’s yesterday to clog the remaining arteries
Happy thanksgiving!
…looks at calendar…
So it is! Happy Thanksgiving to the north-of-the-border SDMB contingent!
Now I’m going to sit here and sulk over the fact that, here in the UK, I miss two Thanksgivings…
At dinner after work on Friday night, the fact that it is Canadian Thanksgiving weekend came up. One of my (American) co-workers’ wives said to me, “Why do you have Thanksgiving? What, did you figure we had one, so you had to have one too?”
I was too polite to respond to the second half of her query, but the first actually does have me puzzled. While I can think of dozens of things for which Canada can be thankful, is there some specific occasion for which we celebrate Thanksgiving?
I asked the relatives at dinner yesterday, but none knew. So I throw it out to the Teeming Millions. What was the original Canadian Thanksgiving in celebration of?
Well, I’m not from Canada, but your question got me curious. So I got online and found an answer to your question at
