OK, I need the opinion of true rockers on the SD. Please rank these CDs from best to least favorite:
a) AC/DC “Back in Black”
b) Metallica “Metallica” (w/“Enter Sandman”)
c) Scorpions “Crazy World”
d) Twisted Sister “Stay Hungry”
e) Queensryche “Empire”
f) Guns N Roses “Appetite for Destruction”
g) Bon Jovi “Slippery When Wet”
Major drop-off after Twisted Sister - I think Metallica’s black album was a major disappointment. And I loved Slippery at the time, but I was like 15, and it’s got a different rating on the Mohs’ scale, if you know what I mean.

I went with the criteria of how much I liked the album at its high point in my life. For instance, the 1987 me felt differently about Stay Hungry than about Appetite, but in 1984, I fricking loved Stay Hungry. Just not as much as '97 me loved Appetite. Make sense?
Anyway…
f) Guns N Roses “Appetite for Destruction” - It ended up being overplayed as fuck, but it’s still one of the best things to come out of the 80’s. For two or three summers, it was the unifying album for all social groups. We could go to a party and it didn’t matter what kind of music people liked – you could throw on Appetite, and everyone was into it. But I’d die a happy man if I never heard the Sweet Child riff again. g) Bon Jovi “Slippery When Wet” - Fuck you if you don’t like it. Every damn night in the summer of '87, this one was jammed in the tape deck when we cruised the Seaside Heights strip. It was the goddamn soundtrack for long-hair New Jersey guys looking to get laid, and it kicked ass. d) Twisted Sister “Stay Hungry” - Cartoony, but damn did it play good in high school. Fuck you, Mr. Authority Guy! 'Cause we’re totally not gonna take it! 'Cause I just wanna rock! Yeah, I’m an S.M.F. and if you don’t like it, you can go burn in hell! e) Queensryche “Empire” - A little preachy at times, but I played the hell out of it simply out of respect for what they did with Mindcrime. b) Metallica “Metallica” (w/“Enter Sandman”) - I probably like this more now than at any time in my life. When it came out, I was still in “Fuck Metallica, they totally pussied out after Kill 'Em All” mode, but there’s definitely good shit there when I go back with a more grown-up ear. a) AC/DC “Back in Black” - Loved it at various times in my life, but if I don’t hear another track from it again, I won’t miss it (of course, I will hear it again – I still have plenty of weddings left to attend in my life where the DJ will want to make everyone “rock out”) c) Scorpions “Crazy World” - Sorry…Winds Of Change counters any good this album might have had.
I’d go with AC/DC at the top and the others…? I don’t think I could name a song from the remaining groups (might be able to pick one out if I heard it).
Looks like that makes me a “Get off my lawn!”, but I did play bass in a AC/DC tribute band for several years - just not a real heavy-rock or radio Z-rock fan. L Zep on the other hand… alrighty then.
