Will make a great shelf companion to the Complete Far Side.
That shall one day sit on my shelf right next to my Toda Mafalda.
I started a thread about a year ago asking what should get the “Complete” treatment, and Calvin and Hobbes was at the top of the list. I’ll have this pre-ordered as soon as it’s possible.
So we’ve got The Far Side, Peanuts coming out in 25 two-year volumes, and now Calvin and Hobbes. I’m ready for some Dick Tracy, Alley Oop, Pogo and for God’s sake, let’s get the Krazy Kat dailies in a systematic, from the beginning reprint.
Yow! $94.50 and 1440 pages. Can they make a trade paperback that size? I guess I’ll wait a year and find out.
Paging Mr. Breathed…paging Mr. Berkeley Breathed. Your publisher is on line one.
And when you finally get around to jumping on this gravy train, please include all four of your comics. Please.
I get the feeling they’ll never make a “The Complete Mallard Fillmore.”
But I already have the complete Calvin & Hobbes – all the color super-deluxe reprints, plus “Attack of the Deranged Mutant Snow Goons,” plus the 10th anniversary collection! That’s gotta be complete, ainnit?
Still, a three-volume set…
I think that’s the final warning sign of the Apocalypse.
cough The Complete Chick Tracts cough
After which, there are probably going to be generations of mutated, degenerate monks faithfully copying the Far Side collection by hand onto vellum scrolls. Holy wars will be fought over “Cow Tools,” and future generations of scholars will puzzle over the meaning of “Eenie-oonie-wanah!”
Most of Alley Oop and Dick Tracy has been republished by, uhm, I think Kitchen Sink Comics, actually.

I’m confused. The link said $150.00.
I couldn’t get that link to work, so I went to Amazon and that’s what they’re charging for it.
That’s hardcover and they don’t have it in yet, but yes, $94.50 is what they quoted.
Wow, a sign of the apocalypse that itself contains numerous references to the coming apocalypse. Meta reference of the year.
Well, I know what I’m getting for next Christmas. To quote Calvin, “OhboyOhboyOhboy!”
If you can, hold off on buying it. The Complete Far Side is now down to an incredible $67.50 on Amazon (50% off). I wish I had waited instead of paying about $100 for it…
The one-volume edition of BONE clocked in at 1350 IIRC. So it’s possible but I really don’t want to think about what that’ll do to the spine.
I want the complete Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, and all the other EC comics.
These are available. Each of the three horror comics Tales From the Crypt The Vault of Horror and The Haunt of Fear got its own deluxe boxed set of hardcover books reprinting all of the original issues. The artwork is in black and white, photographed fromt he original artwork, not from existing issues (this is important–take a look at the Lil Abner Frazetta Sundays and you’ll see how poor the artwork looks if it’s reproduced from color print).
They also reprinted the lesser known books–Two Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat, Weird Fantasy, Weird Science, Weird Science-Fantasy, Shock Suspenstories, and the crime books.
There’s also a set of “annuals” which are huge squarebound softcover comics that reprint 5 issues per volume.
Much as I love Calvin and Hobbes . . . given that I already own a copy of every Calvin and Hobbes book ever printed prior to this one (and thus, every Calvin and Hobbes strip ever printed), I’m going to have a pretty hard time justifying the expense to myself. I don’t suppose Watterson decided to add any new artwork (as he did for some of the books), did he?
I ordered it from Amazon about a week ago for my sister’s birthday, and it was $50.
Yay for C&H, though!
