What the hell is this? Who greenlit this? What on earth is going on here?
Very odd choice, though when my kids were little, they did love Harold and the Purple Crayon, I don’t think I’m really seeing the audience for this one.
It’s a classic children’s book from the 50s.
Also a cartoon from 2002. So adults in their mid to early 20s might have an interest in this. Maybe.
I just want to check that you actually looked at the trailer. I’m really struggling with Zachary Levi as a manchild with a purple crayon.
My daughter has the book, but I don’t understand why Harold is an adult man in this?
+1 X 3
We could start a thread “Beloved Children’s Books That Should Never Ever Be Crassly Turned Into Mediocre Films”.
Although a part of me wouldn’t be shocked if this were an elaborate prank, and we soon see a headline “Zachary Levi Tired of Movies, Turns To Making Fake Trailers Instead.”
He was very good in the first Shazam movie, I’m sure is the reasoning. But, no it makes very little sense.
You know, “child in a man’s body with magical powers accompanied by his zany cohort” does seem to describe both, I think that’s it.
Watching the trailer, that was what came to mind for me.
I have no interest in the movie, but generally like Zachary Levi in most of what he does. He really is somewhat like Tom Hanks in the regard.
Me, I’m waiting for the Chuck Movie to actually happen. I’m doubting it will at this point.
I thought the trailer was fine. I have a sinking feeling the movie will be terrible and will join the list below, but I’m intrigued.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Where the Wild Things Are
The Grinch (not the animated special, the movie with Jim Carrey)
The reaction shots are so over-the-top as to be distracting. This looks like a movie whose target audience is seven and under.
And I LIKE HatPC books! They are a nice bit of nostalgic whimsy. This…looks like “movie by committee”.
Can we make a live action Curious George? Or, not. How about Good Dog Carl, the Movie. No need to translate it into different languages for the foreign markets.
I’m still waiting for Ellie Kemper as Amelia Bedelia.
Already happened. Very forgettable. So much so that apparently reality deleted it.
I’d rather they made a version of Barnaby (same author).
Barnaby should look familiar.
I admit I am open to a live action Magic School Bus. There was one greenlit a few years ago with Elizabeth Banks, but I wonder if Covid killed it off.
Did it star Nelson Mandela as The Man In The Yellow Hat?
Close, it was either Wil Ferreldela or Matthew Broderela.
