Harris VP choice as she is the official presidential nominee of the Democratic Party for 2024

And I think his lack of substantial office is far more damning that his being gay in 2024. Sect. Transportation is a nothing job for a VP and Mayor of minor city is far less. He needs to get a higher office, elected or in the Cabinet at very least.

I think he should run for a Senate seat first.

Evan’s father, Birch Bayh, was a dem senator for Indiana from '63 to '81. It’s always been a possibility.

But note that “here” is a big group of Democrats.

Democrats are already in the bag. Making them happy doesn’t really get you anything.

A little part of me thinks the vetting of whitmer is to show the Michigan voters (especially the union ones) that Big Gretch is in the conversation, even if Harris has no intention of picking her (and whitmer has no intention of being a running mate). We Michiganders haven’t had anyone on a presidential ticket since Ford, so it’s kind of exciting to have a native daughter in the mix. This kind of stuff makes it on the local evening news, gets shared on socials, gets talked about on morning radio, etc. It’ll definitely get Michigan voters juiced, even if the pick ultimately goes to someone else.

Also, thinking ahead, if Harris has whitmer in mind for a cabinet appointment, this early vetting can’t hurt with the confirmation process.

Oh let’s be clear that it is of even less import. These aren’t the consensus names of who would make us happy, we’d have some expertise on that, but our WAGs of what would work best. And whadda we know?

Edit: deleted, as it’s a hijack.

Beshear is term limited and is serving his final term as Governor.

I disagree. The same people supporting Trump are super anti-gay and so forth. I mean, he actually was selling rainbow flags with Trump logos back in 2015 and 2016 since he actually does not care, but I think it’s pretty anti-gay, anti-trans, anti-anything-not-straight, etc. now.

Obama hurdled up quite quickly. State Rep, Senator, President, boom!

I remind myself that Obama is a once a century type candidate, though. We should be so lucky to see a candidate like that I think Biden has actually equaled or surpassed Obama as president.

But the homophobic are already voting Trump. Or am I missing a segment of voters?

How big of a difference would his being gay make right now?

But I’ll compromise, Pete Buttigieg’s lack of real office and being gay means he adds little to the ticket and almost certainly hurts it.

More on the Jewish angle. Gabby Giffords, the wife of Mark Kelly, has a Jewish father.

There is a large difference between actual bigoted homophobes and those who simply dont understand homosexuality, etc.

“Jew or Not Jew” gave her a 10 out of 15.

Jewish father. Attends synagogue. She’s good enough for this Jew.

I ned to see her long-form birth certificate first.

They’re EVERYWHERE!!!

He’s in the Cabinet now, but I agree that it doesn’t prep you for VP.

As for Kelly, if he becomes VP does that make the seat vulnerable down the road after his term ends?

Presumably the person picked by the Democratic governor of Arizona will be a strong enough candidate to defend the seat successfully when Kelly’s term expires. Fingers crossed. I think it will be okay.

Sorry, I meant a higher office in the Cabinet. There was an exchange you missed where I mentioned Secretary of Transportation was too minor. He really needs State or Defense I would think and I still think Senator is far better of such aspirations.

If Kelly were elected VP, Democratic AZ Governor Katie Hobbs would appoint a replacement who would serve until a special election would be held in 2026 for the remaining two years of that Senate seat’s term. There would then be an election in 2028 for a full six-year term.

Yes, I know. That’s why I said that whoever is picked by Governor Hobbs will likely run for Kelly’s seat, so the pick needs to be a strong one. Hobbs will be keenly aware of the importance of it.
