Yeah totally. My only opinion is I hope she has found most cynical soulless (but terrifyingly effective) political consultants to advise her on this. I want her to be guided by Malcom Tucker meets Thufir Hawat on this one.
Don’t read too much into that. I’m quite sure the campaign also Has Harris/Shapiro, Harris/Kelly, and Harris/Beshear websites ready to go at the push of a button.
Now “dozens” of black SUV’s showing up might actually be a clue. But that was a nine second clip, and Walz was supposed to speak at an event this evening, so nine seconds worth of SUV’s doesn’t impress me. All I could find on Twin Cities local media are stories from earlier today about the campaign and severe thunderstorm warnings this evening. Fox Twin Cities has a live 9:00 p.m. newscast streaming right now and they aren’t saying anything about activity at the governor’s mansion.
The campaign stop at Savannah has been postponed due to Debby. The other 6 states are a go. After pa, the new team will be going to nc, wi, mi, nv, and az. I’m wondering if nc will have to be postponed, Debby is due to hit there as well.
Um, you forgot the step where she notifies her closest circle of donors who signed up to be on the special list that gets notified before the public announcement. I have been invited by personal email from Kamala herself.
Wow, that’s awesome. Now I have another reason for wanting it to be Walz.
I’d be fine with any of them, but I like Walz a little better, and I like the look, the vibe, of them better than Shapiro or Kelly with Harris. I think there are some pitfalls around the whole “she has to have a white guy on the ticket” where people will read into the image of her and her running mate.
With Kelly, he looks like a guy used to being in charge, and I think people could read either power struggle or that he’s the real leader into the image of the two of them. Shapiro kind of goes the other way. He’s a little nerdy looking, I could see like a henpecked charicacture. Walz just looks so affable and good natured, I get a sort of Obama/Biden bros meme sort of image.
Everything I’ve seen on socials is saying these SUVs had MN plates and were taking him to a Minnesota for Harris fundraiser with Amy Klobuchar. So…we still know nothing.
Quite impressive that there’s so much discipline from the campaign staff. No leaks!
And from everything I’ve seen and heard, he genuinely is those things.
What a contrast – Kamala’s glowing smile vs Trump’s constant hateful scowl, Walz’s affable disposition vs Vance’s hillbilly hostility. It’s amazing how much you can read into resting-face expressions. But I’m getting ahead of myself. If it’s come down to Shapiro vs Walz, it’s clear where I stand!
There are news articles detailing a literal skeleton in Shapiro’s closet. Apparently, back in 2022 when Shapiro was AG of Pennsylvania, he reaffirmed that a woman’s death was a suicide.
The woman had been stabbed at least 20 times, including 10 times in the back of the neck.
There’s been chatter about this ^^^ for several days elsewhere. I’m surprised it hasn’t gotten more attention on these boards.
This, for me, is disqualifying for Shapiro. He pretty clearly assisted in protecting a member of a well-connected powerful family from prosecution. Even if it just looks smelly, it’s the kind of distraction the campaign doesn’t need. But if it really is what it seems to be, then Shapiro should be under investigation, not joining Harris on a presidential ticket.
The Harris campaign must surely be aware. That seems to clinch it for Walz, barring any surprise nomination of candidates that were presumed out of the running, like Kelly or Beshear. Just hours to go …
I’ve seen Walz speak on TV a few times. File tape, but I had never seen him before. Well-spoken, clearly-made points. Although I still like Kelly, Walz would be (IMHO) a good selection.
What matters most, I think, is that whoever is Harris’ running mate, he should be squeaky-clean. I don’t think that anybody is going to care if a candidate and his high school pals had a beer blast in the park when they were 17 (“Horrors! Underage drinking! Forty or more years ago!”), but that Shapiro homicide-then-suicide matter ought to be enough to disqualify Shapiro from being among Harris’ choices. The same for the other possible selections.
For me, this is another time the astronaut thing kicks in. A successful astronaut knows how to give orders and how to take them, they know how to be decisive and how to work within a chain of command.
That’s what I like about Kelly. Not just being an astronaut, but what being an astronaut entails: the ability to analyze a problem and come up with a solution, sometimes quite quickly. And shimming a solution if that becomes necessary (cf. Apollo 13). The education and experience required to become an astronaut doesn’t hurt either.
