I just saw a pop up notification from the AP that it was Walz.
You want them to really lean on Pete?
Walz! I can’t believe how happy I am about this.
The more I saw his interviews the more I liked him. He is such an upbeat guy. Happy warrior. I believe his humour matches hers. Great pick.
This is great news. Watch the stock market pop today.
Just for more confirmation, NBC News just broke into the Olympic coverage to announce that Walz was the choice.
One might say that he Walz-“ed” right in and got it.
A big win for prediction markets which moved sharply towards Walz over the last couple of days.
And on the whole a good decision, which among other things should allow Harris a bit more room to tack to the middle on some issues. That would have been more difficult if she had pissed off progressives early by picking Shapiro.
Jim Acosta (CNN) reports:
TIL that his Lt. Governor would be the first Native American Governor if he wins. Cool!
Ultimately, for all the conversation about how different candidates would check different boxes, Walz meets the fundamental requirement of a Vice-Presidential nominee – do no harm.
Sure, until Minnesota invades Wisconsin as his first order of business!
I REALLY hope Rs make a big issue out of this. My preferred rejoinder would be, “What do you mean about the near-deification of all veterans, whether or not they ever saw combat? Are you dissing them as well?”
At the risk of looking ahead, in 8 years he’ll be 68…
So looking forward to hearing more of him just addressing the Chump’s weirdness and unsuitability for ANY position of authority - even night shift manager at a McD’s. And let loose Pritzker, Pete, and the other attack dogs. Keep developing that bench…
I’m just going to pat myself on the back for being the first person to mention Walz in this thread way back in post #175. Go me!
(Mostly kidding, I literally just asked “What about this guy?” because I had never heard of him before, but still… )
Props!
It’s funny how this is in the headlines everywhere, but it’s attributed to “multiple sources” – i.e.- not yet an official announcement. Meanwhile the best attack Fox News has been able to come up with is “most Americans have never heard of Tim Walz”!
Bumping this now Walz is the nominee. I really hope this is the case and Shapiro being the front runner was a ploy. Not because I particularly dislike Shapiro but because it would show a level of cunning in the cause of getting elected completely absent from the Democrats in my lifetime
Stopped clocks and all that.
According to the NY Times, we can already see what the initial lines of attacks are going to be:
Reactions from Republicans to the choice of Walz have quickly centered on him being too progressive, and on attacking him for the unrest in Minneapolis following the killing of George Floyd in 2020. “Harris-Walz: most left-wing ticket in American history,” Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida said on X this morning. “Walz sat by and let Minneapolis burn.”
Of course, the flip side of this “strategy” (which I have no reason to believe Harris actually used) is that Shapiro feels burned and makes less of an effort to get her elected in the most pivotal swing state in the country.
Secretary of State Shapiro has a nice ring to it, though…
