Harry Potter 6 Thread--'Ware Spoilers!

Which is why I think that Dumbledore’s funeral will be the opening of 7.1. They place the wand with him in the funeral, for all to see.

Yes, there is, which makes me think maybe this is another clue that the next movie will open with Dumbledore’s funeral.

Harry needs to break up with Ginny, too.

That would be too Muggle life for Harry!

It seems like it’s pretty much open season on Deathly Hallows spoilers in this thread anyway, but beware book spoilers below, just in case.

Overall, I liked the film and didn’t mind any of the changes. Like others, I do wish that Harry was incapacitated for the death of Dumbledore and would have liked to see Dumbledore’s Army holding back the Death Eaters with the use of Felix.

As setup for The Deathly Hallows, however, it definitely seems to have created some problems. Did I miss Dumbledore telling Harry to keep the Horcrux business to himself, Ron, an Hermione? This informs quite a few of his decisions and actions up to the end of the story. Harry doesn’t really even understand how Riddle chose his Horcruxes. No discussion of the significance of the ring. No discussion of items belonging to Hogwarts founding members. No discussion of Nagini as a Horcrux. Harry did not see the Diadem in the Room of Requirement.

I understand this was all cut for length, and I didn’t miss it, per se, but it is certainly setting up Deathly Hallows to be the most difficult novel to adapt for the screen. I’d expect much much bigger changes in how the story plays out than ever before, based on all the setup we’ve missed so far.

I put some serious strain on my eyes looking for it, too, and I didn’t either.

When they were at what I think is a Weasley house with one of Gringotts goblins. It’s a line from the goblin.

“So young to be fighting so many”. I am a giant sap…and this line touched me.

Me too! And I didn’t see it either.

i was looking for the diadem as well.

in the book harry places the book in an old cabinet that contains a cage, with a skeleton that belongs in the mutter museum. there is a bust of some guy on top of the cabinet. harry adds a wig and the diadem to the bust so he can find it later.

unless ginny does this in the movie and has a scene where she remembers it in d.h. it may be trouble.

speaking of trouble in muggle world, one of draco’s slytherin pals was sentenced to probation today on drug charges. those slytherin boys are bad, lawbreaking snake types.

I wonder if this will affect the actor’s standing with the director/producers/studio at all. If the diadem part of HPatDH remains at all intact, it will be the first time in… 3 or 4 movies?.. that Crabbe and Goyle actually have something to DO in the film. And he might miss out on it. Shame.

That’s your favorite line? I was thinking it would be NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!

yyyeesssssss!

I thought Dumbledore said, “Please” to Snape because he wanted Snape to kill him, not Malfoy. If Malfoy killed him Malfoy would be lost to the dark side, whereas Dumbledore knew Snape could handle it.

And I don’t think Hagrid had a wand, I just think it was someone behind him.

I’m not sure it was so much his being able to handle it as it was that Snape knew that Dumbledore was dying so Snape was killing Dumbledore at his own request. And given the curse, it could also be a mercy killing. There’s less evil in that sort of thing than if Malfoy’s murdering in order to serve (or out of fear of) the Dark Lord.

Wasn’t there an agreement in the book between Dumbledore and Snape that Snape would kill him?

BTW, I was giving the author hell in earlier threads for not riding shotgun over the differences in the movie. After watching the interview between her and the screenwriter there was indeed a very deep collaboration between author and screenwriter. The interview was on the 2nd DVD from POA. So nyaaa. She was directly involved with keeping the story line on track.

Pointless trivia question, did anyone catch the hippogriff Buck beak taking a dump in POA? It happens right after Ron pushes Harry toward the beast and they switch to a panoramic shot. It made me LOL that they spent the time and money to digitally create this.

I don’t know about that, I’ve never read the books.

there may have been… but we won’t know for sure until book/movie 7 (for those who haven’t read or seen it).

Yes. Revealed towards the end of Deathly Hallows.

I missed something, and so did both people I went to the movie with. Who were the twin girls (in green) at Slughorn’s first party? I very vaguely recall someone saying that there were twins at Hogwarts in two different houses, could these girls be them?

The twins in two separate houses are Parvati and Padma Patil.(They are the ones Harry and Ron take to the Yule Ball in GoF.) Parvati is a Gryffindor and Padma a Ravenclaw. I don’t believe they appeared in this movie unless I missed them in the background somewhere.

The twins at Slughorn’s party are not characters ever mentioned in the book as far as I can remember.

With regards to the party, I was sort of hoping they’d have the scene with the author and his “pet” vampire, with all the simpering girls following him about. Would’ve been extra funny what with all the vampire stuff around lately.

I think most people have said what I would say, though I do have one thing to add; Harry on the luck potion was hilarious.

I told you in the earlier thread that J.K. Rowling was far more involved in the Harry Potter movies than authors normally are in film adaptations of their work. No one ever suggested that she wasn’t. You were unhappy because she wasn’t dictating every single decision down to the set design (something no author has ever been given the power to do and that no sane author would want), not because she had no involvement in the scripts. She’s always been involved with the scripts.
