Remind me, then. Didn’t Voldemort just miss them, though? There is no real encounter there, is there?
That’s what I thought. And it looks like their spells hit each other and hold for a moment. I think more or less in the book, the Elder Wand betrays Voldemort very quickly and it flies in the air and turns the spell against him.
Just watched it again. 1:50 or so in the trailer, by the way.
I think the camera is just moving very fast to the left, which makes the log look like it is “slithering” fast to the right.
And, considering it looks like a forest, it would fit the story as well. If I remember correctly, Ron saves Harry’s life in that pond where the Horcrux is. I think they are in some random forest Hermione “warped” Harry and her to.
My guess is that they are showing the arrest of Luna Lovegood (a scene not in the book.) Luna Lovegood is arrested on her return to Hogwarts after Christmas vacation, IIRC. The would add this scene because Luna Lovegood is a popular character in the fan crowd. Either t hat or they are showing people searching the train at the beginning of the school year to see if Harry Potter or any of his close friends are on board?
One thing that surprised me - in the trailer mentioned in the OP, when Nagini attacks Harry, from the room decorations it looks like they are in a child’s nursery. But in the book, Nagini attacks Harry in Bathilda Bagshot’s house. I wonder if they moved that scene to Harry Potter’s childhood home?
Other points (already discussed by others): when Harry is telling Ron “Kill it”, that must be the scene where Ron breaks the locket (one of the horcruxes).
The scene where Voldemort is asking Harry “Why do you live” appears to be inside Hogwarts. Don’t know where they fit that in, it’s not in the book.
When they are showing Voldemort and Harry engaged in a wand duel, I also noticed that the scene did not seem to be in the Great Hall. Either the final duel scene has changed to be a 1 on 1 with no spectators, or else the duel lasts longer and people come to see at some point.
i agree, neville needs to have his moment. bad enough they cut the part of the prophecy that could have been him from the movie.
i watched the clip again, and also the clip they showed on mtv. mahaloth, i agree, the camera makes the log look like it is moving.
also ron is going with a “cleave” motion, rather than a “stab” motion. cleave seems a bit odd to me as the book had a stab through the locket rather like harry’s stab of the journal.
there is quite the discussion going on at the 2 big hp sites.
It seemed to be that Voldemort got to the scene before Hermione disapparated Harry away, but the mental link between Voldemort and Harry forced Voldy to have a vivid flashback of the day he came to Godric’s Hollow to kill the Potters and had to settle for a .667 batting average. While his mind (and Harry’s) was occupied by that memory, Harry and Hermione escaped.
I don’t know why the spectators aren’t there, but when I watched the trailer (it was yesterday, and admittedly I didn’t pay super close attention to this part) it almost looked to me like the great hall had been destroyed, and they were fighting in the ruins of it.
I wrote it off to “yeah, wizards can rebuild buildings quickly and easily, so they’re showing it for dramatic effect and they’ll put everything together again at the end.”
