It looks totally cooool!
Doesn’t it?! I absolutely can’t wait for the movie! I wonder if I can get my parents to let me go to a midnight show.
Gee, I sure thought with all the Harry Potter threads in the past more people would have something to say about this. I can hardly wait for this November!
I am looking forward to it.
I don’t think my 7 year old will be able to handle it, though.
I think I’m more excited about this than my kids are. Of course, I’m more excited about Narnia than my kids are too.
But GOF is my favorite book of the series so far. I know they had to cut a lot to keep this to a managable length (Molly and the Dursley’s were cut out completely) but it looks like they’ve still got most everything covered.
And it may just be me, but Igor’s one sexy bitch from what I could see.
I’m fairly ambivalent about this one. They had to cut so much from all the movies that they played very much like “best of” moments, and this book is the longest and therefore most cut by far.
I’d be very happy to have it turn out to be a great movie but I’m not holding my breath :(.
I’m a little concerned as well. They left out a good deal of relatively important plot points from the last movie (the identity of the mapmakers, animagi, etc.) and the resulting film was a gutted version of the book. This film has me nervous. It could go very wrong.
Looks like they changed a bit. All the Beauxbatons are girls now? Dancing lessons? Sirius’s face in the fire was a bit odd too… not at all like I had imagined it would be, but still pretty cool. Krum didn’t look nearly surly enough, but maybe that’s because he was just picked. I’ll watch it though. And I’ll love it. Because I’m addicted like that.
I thought Fleur was part Veela, and had like silvery hair or something? Oh well. Too bad they spoiled the arrival of the “French” and “German” teams.
I’m glad they’re going to be showing the Wizard World Cup–seeing the wizards socialize and interact with the Muggle world was my favorite part.
Too bad it’s not Cuaron directing again, he was really imaginative.
There’s another trailer that’s just been released too. Go to http://www.veritaserum.com/, scroll down to “Another new GOF trailer airs in UK” and look at Update 3. You can get a high-definition version. It has a lot of scenes that the new American trailer doesn’t have.
I’ve seen the movie, and unless you’re (general you) a nit-picker who bores everybody within earshot about how “it’s not like how you imagined” you should have a good time. People who understand that the movies are very different from the books, and go with the flow, and non-book readers open to the Harry Potter world should love it.
A LOT IS CUT OUT and changed. A LOT. I didn’t realize how much until I read the book AFTER seeing the movie. I still thoroughly enjoyed the movie (hey, it got me to read all 6 books) and will be there at the midnight show when it opens in November.
Yes, all the Beauxbatons are girls and all the Durmstrang are boys.
If anyone has any specific questions I’ll try to answer them.
It does look very good. But am I the only one who thinks that the 3 main actors are now WAY WAY WAY too old?
Why would you think that? The actors are only a year older than their characters. By the time the last movie is made, they’ll only be 3-4 years older, and that’s not much.
I forgot to mention, for those who haven’t read the books, that each book represents the next year at school, so in this next movie they’re in their 4th year at Hogwarts. They’re supposed to be getting older, and it’s also a good reason why each movie keeps getting darker and darker.
I am mildly pissed that the whole SPEW plot was taken out. I like the fact that Hermione was getting political–and lord knows, kids could use some role models in that direction.
I don’t think the kids are too old at all. They’re not 12 anymore and the books character developement reflects that, as well as the actors.
I have more fears re Narnia (which has more delicate whimsy in it).
Question for Equipoise : 1. How have you seen the movie already? and 2. Do Ron and Harry have a falling out in this movie, the way they do in the book? I hope so–it adds depth and realism to their relationship.
So say the books. This really is my only gripe with what I have seen. The fact that she is part Veela, and looks like one, is a part of the character. The movie Fleur looks like and ordinary girl. In fact, the actresses playing Cho, and Hermionie are more physically atractive.
- There was a test screening in Chicago in July. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I went to see Howl’s Moving Castle and there was someone giving out passes. No one knew what the movie was before it started.
Most of the special effects weren’t done, and the soundtrack was temporary (I though it sounded pretty good though). We filled out papers about what we liked and didn’t like. There was a focus group after the movie (the director and producers were there) but I didn’t get to be one of them, darn it.
I answered hundreds of questions at a Harry Potter site. I wasn’t all that helpful because 1) I hadn’t read the book(s) then and didn’t know who was who or what was going on, and 2) I have a terrible memory. Someone put together an info site based on some of the things I said and someone else who was there (who got to be part of the focus group too). It’s here if you want to be spoiled badly.
I forgot
- Yes, they do have the falling out. Harry doesn’t throw a “Potter Stinks!” button at Ron though.
I was all ready to scoff at your claim, but you appear to be correct. I thought that the movies were coming out more slowly than they are, but they’re almost one a year.
So why do the actors suddenly look so much older to me? Did Daniel and Rupert just go through enormous growth spurts or something? Because both of them look around 19 to me. Or is it those shaggy haircuts?
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
61 days!
Ohboyohboyohboy!
Rupert has, he’s 5’11" and the Draco kid (I forget his name) is 6’1". Poor Daniel hasn’t grown much at all and is only 5’5" (even shorter than Emma who is 5’6"). I imagine they have to do some funky shooting to make up for the height differences…
