Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince official trailer

I think Bonnie Wright is a

lovely young lady.

Likewise. And I think the actress fits the part very nicely indeed.

I rewatched The Sorceror’s Stone recently, and smiled to see the very young Ginny wishing Harry luck as he rushes though the magic gate to catch the Hogwarts train at Platform 9 3/4. If only they knew what their futures held…

So your answer might change this upcoming February 17?

Which Hermione wasn’t supposed to be.

Let’s just say, I’m planning to throw a party.

Yeah I know, threw me for a loop too…

That actually annoyed me - where are the bucked teeth? The glasses? The complete lack of grace and poise? It’s like they decided to go for the complete opposite of how the character was described! Obviously there are other considerations to take into account, such as will grown men go to see a film that has a female lead who isn’t masturbation fodder? Of course the answer in the mind of Hellywood execs is no, so we got Emma Watts.

the bucked teeth were magically fixed in either her first or second year. some hex from draco, that the school nurse fixed.

ginny has a quiet beauty. the actor that plays her is one of those sneaky good looking people, the ones that get better looking the more you look at them.

Do not challenge my Potter-nerdishness! Her teeth were fixed during Goblet of Fire (year 4).

On the subject of actors’ looks, Rowling said in one interview that she received lots and lots of fan letters wanting to know “Draco’s not really bad is he?” and was astonished at how popular the character was. She said she I]loathed* the character more than almost any other than Umbridge or Gilderoy (who was famously based on an ex acquaintance)- she felt pity for Draco but felt he was an obnoxious little bastard no less- and was shocked by the amount of fan-love for him. She then realized “ah, it’s the actor playing him”; apparently Tom Felton (Draco) has the largest tween girl following other than Radcliffe, which Rowling said caused problems with some fans because they wanted to see Draco totally redeemed in 7 (which did seem a possibility, and he didn’t turn out to be inhuman, but he also isn’t really a good guy at the end).

While the kid playing him is half my age, that doesn’t stop me from saying some 20 year old actors are hot, but with Felton I just don’t see it. To me he looks like an albino twig person. I guess I have different taste from adolescent girls.

The thing with Emma too is…when you cast a girl when shes 10 or 11 (however old she was in Sorcerers Stone) you probably don’t look at her and think “In 6 years she is gonna be hot, we shouldn’t cast her”

I probably wouldn’t have called her good looks at that young of an age, I certainly wouldn’t have called Daniels maturity (or Feltons for that matter)

Is there a layout of Hogwarts on the net? After reading all the books I would have liked to have had an interactive layout of the castle and surrounding area to explore for clarity.

Oh, that trailer was awesome. I still cannot believe we have to wait till frigging July to see this thing. I can’t wait.

It changed dramatically from the first couple of films to the last few, plus with things like the Room of Requirement any plan would ultimately tell only a part of the story.

Yes, I think the interior (and lack of logic it follows) is the very epitomy of “a wizard did it”.

Are you saying that if I watch the first movie and the latest one the castle is different? Why would they reconstruct the computer layout?

I have to say I’m not impressed with the control of the movies at all. They leave a lot of stuff out that makes it confusing if you haven’t read the book or they just alter the plot altogether.

Because different directors bring different visions to the story and demand different things of the designers, for a start. The biggest difference I notice is the location and appearance of Hagrid’s shack. Also the fact that in the more recent movies, it doesn’t appear to be made of wood, which was stated explicitly in the first book.

I get peeved at that, too, sometimes, but as I understand it, they don’t change anything without Rowling’s approval.* Everybody understands that they’re telling a slightly different story in the movies, I think.

Just think of it this way, twenty years or so from now, we’ll be able to see them re-do them all up right when someone who’s grown up with the books becomes the next Steven Spielberg or whatever.

  • I am told that they initially intended to leave Kreacher out of Order (or maybe it was leaving Dobby out of Chamber) altogether, and Rowling stated flatly that this could not be done.

The biggest problem with all the “Harry” movies is that they can’t seem to find a director to direct more than one or two movies at a time. Because each director has his own “vision” and “style” than the continuity between the looks of all three movies is a bit skewed.

It’s not anything huge, but it is a problem that I have noticed with the movies that does kind of irk me a little

To date my biggest complaint about an omission is Umbridge sending the Dementors. I couldn’t believe they left that out. If you’ve never read the book you’d have no idea why they attacked Harry and Dudley or why Umbridge wasn’t the least bit upset by it.

That and NEVER telling that Messrs Wormtail, Loony, Padfoot and Prongs are Pettigrew, Lupin, Black and Potter, so that Harry knows that his Patronus is the same as his father’s. It’s “implied” and usually I don’t like stuff spelled out in films, but that is key.

There is so much left out of the films where one line of dialogue or one shot of a reaction would help so much, that it is aggravating. I confess I’m no fan of the current director (who is doing the last films–forget his name). I liked the one who did HP3, even though he left out the bit about the patronuses.

I also have issues with some clunky dialogue–stop trying to make Dumbledore weird. Rowling captured a tone, a personality, a twinkle and it is lost–Harris didn’t really have it either, but he had it more than Gambon. Gambon switches between fey, odd remarks and manhandling Harry to being at a complete loss re what to do. I almost expect him to start wringing his hands. He has not captured the character, IMO.
