Harry Potter Mafia

Uh, I’ll take one…minus the magic swirling eye.

Apropos of nothing, but what alcohols are there in the HPverse? There’s butterbeer which is either like rootbeer, i.e. nonalcoholic or really really weak. What else?

whiffs an eyeball at mahaloth

There’s Firewhiskey and Mulled Mead. Canonically speaking there’s not much attention paid to alcohol, given that this is a series aimed towards children.

And yet, at the same time, they do give the kids butterbeer. I assume it’s just really low in alcohol.

I think they are offered wine by Slughorn in the 6th movie, though. So they have wine in the magic world, too.

And the adults drink regular beer in the 5th movie, I think.

**Special Notice:

Chronos is replacing tiltawhirl.**

Welcome, Chronos!

Confirmed.

And nettle wine is also mentioned: In the first book, it’s what’s in the innocuous bottles in the potion logic puzzle.

In the morning, the Order of the Phoenix gathered together again to see how the Night had gone and to discuss the plans for the new Day.

However, most of the Order just sat there, staring at each other.

They were waiting for their strongest wizard and their leader.

After awhile, he did not arrive and a search, filled with dread, was conducted.and their dread turned into devastation once the body was found.

It was Albus Dumbledore, the finest wizard in all the world.

His face was peaceful, but it was clear he had died during the night. It was clear he was who he said he was and no polyjuice potion had been in effect.

Rysto, who was Albus Dumbledore, is dead. He was a member of the Order of the Phoenix and had the ability to cause infatuation toward any other wizard and the ability to cast protection spells at Night.

It is now Day Four. Day Four will end at Noon Eastern on Thursday, July 15.

I will post a list of the players alive and dead in a moment.
Dumbledore could choose one power per Day/Night cycle. Either vote charging during the Day or Protection at Night.

Oh, for christ’s sake… FUCK!!!

Son of a bitch! How motherfucking lucky can you get? Goddamnit.

NETA: These results are fucking ridiculous. We get scum on Day One, which is very rare, but they kill Harry fucking investigator Potter. Then we get the scum LEADER on Day Three, which is unheard of, and they get Albus fucking doctor Dumbledore. What are the fucking ODDS?! Grrrrrrrrr!

Sorry for the swearing, but this is ludicrous.

Let me know if I have made any mistake on this list, but here is what I have.

Dead:

Omi no Kami – Antonin Dolohov(Death Eater – no special powers)
Drain Bead – Harry Potter(Order of the Phoenix Occlumens and Chosen One)
NormalPhase – Severus Snape(No Chosen Allignment)
Red Skeezix – Lord Voldemort(Death Eater – Leader and Occlumens)
LittlePlasticNinja – Alastar Moody (Order of the Phoenix – no special powers)
Rysto – Albus Dumbledore(Vote Charger/Protector – Had to choose one per Day/Night cycle)

OK, quick, someone else confess to being a bad guy, so I’ll know how to vote! But seriously, I need to do a lot of catching up before I can post too much substantive.

That said, I have a couple of hypotheses for why Red Skeezix acted the way he did:

1: He was apparently a standard Godfather, meaning that with the investigator dead without having claimed any results, he was effectively vanilla Scum. This makes him the most expendable member of the Scum team, but there’s still an inclination among players to regard the Godfather as the least expendable Scum. This makes him an excellent candidate for bussing, since it’d give his bussers disproportionately-high credibility for it, but would carry a disproportionately-low cost for Scum. Of course, there’s plenty of WIFOM here, so I’m not yet willing to attach blame to his early voters (i.e., before he claimed), but I’m also not willing to give them too much credit for it, either.

2: The opening post said that Voldemort especially wanted Harry Potter dead. Might it be that Voldemort had some sort of special personal win-condition, and didn’t need to play any more with Harry gone?

Oh, and Mahaloth, since you’ve apparently made the same typo twice in a row, is there any difference between a vote changer and a vote charger?

**This is officially the most sideways game I have ever played.
**
I mean, I think more people have subbed in now, than have started.

To say nothing of the luck.
At this rate, I frankly don’t see the point in playing. Any progress made will just be reset Tomorrow morning.

But seriously:

**Could there be a reason, color wise, as to why our up-hill battle is apparently now at 90 degrees or more? **

I meant that I would classify this game as more advanced that most of the games I have played in. [I can’t speak to games I haven’t played, nor would I truly know how advanced they were.]

I’m not sure I follow the second part:

Color is color; it doesn’t make the game mechanics any more advanced.

**
If color doesn’t make the game mechanics more advanced, what does make the game mechanics more advanced?**

I was getting a sense that this game has … interesting roles. We don’t even have to say “advanced”, just “different”. If it was different for Snape, it could be different for [an at that time] Skeezix Bomb.

But he wasn’t a bomb so there’s no point in talking about what may have been.

You say our progress is reset every morning but that’s not true. If it requires the sacrifice of one of the power roles to net scum every lynch, I’m totally down with that because hey, we most likely have more power roles than scum. (Not that I think there’s some mechanic causing us to lose a power role when we lynch scum, just that probability is being a bitch this game.)

So, yes, it sucks that we’re down a doctor and an investigator, but you know what? I’ve played games where we lose the doctor and investigator without netting a scum for each. And town still won. So I think we’re far from beaten.

The game started with 18 players. The square root of 18 is 4.2blahblahblah so I’m gonna guess either four or five scum. Town would have to be pretty freaking powerful for an 18 person game to have 6 scum, in my opinion. So by my reckoning, we’re either halfway through the scum team or 2/3. Not bad for the start of day 4.

Yeah, we’re fine.

Sorry to see Rysto go, not least because I had a very strong hunch that he was town, and I can’t say that about many other extant players. Still, all we have to do is keep killing scum.

I wonder if the scum noticed, as I did, that Rysto was the player who had edited his post (#180, which I’d noticed because it happened while I was typing a post) before the warning, and that Mahaloth used the phrase “another townie” when axing LPN in post 349. If that’s the case, fuck me running, it sure is a shame that our Dumbledore got whacked that way.

Still. Time to start playing for real. Let’s all JUST NOT FREAK OUT.

He was revealed as leader of the scum. I can’t imagine how the leader of the scum wouldn’t have the same at stake as the rest of them.

Quoth Inner Stickler:

I don’t see how you get 2/3, if you’re assuming 4 or 5 scum. I mean, maybe there are only three Scum (assuming otherwise really cost Town in Lost), but you didn’t list that as one of the cases you were considering.

In practice, I think that the most likely setup was probably 4 and a half Scum, with Snape counting as half. By that standard, we’re a little over halfway through the Scum team.

I suck at fractions, I meant 2/5ths.
