Harry Potter Mafia

Not sure how to answer this, without proving your point.

Oh wait. Yes I do.

Vote Chronos.

I think that can do it.

FTR: I can get behind the PIS Chronos slipped on.

I swear the wagons in this game are getting in the way of the playing of the game. Then again, given how good (?) we are doing so far…

I mean, if the trade off is more or less 1:1, we will win this one, right?

NETA: And right as I hit submit, I realized I had the colors wrong.

If that’s the way the cover identities work, it’s a sign that the moderator really, really hates the Scum. The whole point of a cover identity is that there isn’t a player who really has that name. The idea is that, in a game like this where everyone has a name and the names are all drawn from a publicly-known source, you could have a mass name-claim, which would give the Town a big unfair advantage, since the Scum would have to try to pick names that seem like they could be in the game but aren’t. One way of fixing this is for the moderator to privately give the Scum cover identities they can safely claim. For instance, if my guess is right, it looks like in this game the moderator told Red Skeezix “You’re Voldemort, but you’re disguised as Luna. There isn’t a real Luna to counterclaim you”. That way, if it comes to a name-claim, then Red could have safely claimed Luna.

What I’m thinking more is

(cover is Luna)
“I’m Luna.”
“None of the rest of us are Luna. But you could be faking it.”
“Wow, I guess that was pointless and proved nothing.”

Or, in this case:

(cover is not Fred)
“I’m Fred.”
“Bull. Because I’m George and I’m pretty sure I would know if you were my brother.”
“Oh snap.”

I explained it badly. I may still be. This low cal diet is playing merry hell with my blood sugar today.

Yeah, I’ve got a bunch of tiny suspicions of Chronos, too. Backed with my original thought that** Red** was flinching because I poked a fellow scum, I’m pretty comfortable with this.

Unless they wait for LyLo.

I’m not demanding more information, I’m just saying that from the perspective of the rest of town you’re playing a risky game that’s not to our benefit.

Oh, and monkgate? Would have gone a LOT better for scum if they hadn’t picked the false claimants they did. You could have pulled off monkgate from the scum side and moreover, picked the right time to do it.

This one stings a bit, because there’s not really any way I can defend against it (I can only guess why Red did what he did), and because I have a strong hunch, based on the way the Day 1 voting went down, that Chip is Town. Ah, well, nobody ever said life was fair, and looking at it from another’s shoes, there’s logic there: If Omi’s behavior nabbed us Red, then maybe Red’s behavior would nab us another Scum.

  1. Brieflyish, what the hell is monkgate?

  2. I’m comfortable with Chronos as a leading candidate for the reasons I stated above. I don’t have much to add based on recent events except to say that I don’t see the profit in pushing Storyteller or the putative other mason for more details. If something smells bad in coming days, we can afford to just kill him for the sport of it, and a scum Storyteller ought to know that.

  3. Anyway, ShadowFacts: why is your vote still on Little Plastic Ninja?

You asked for an explanation from pedescribe for his insane conduct, which is perfectly understandable, but having received in response pedescribe’s hasty retreat from the game, do you still think you’ve got something?

Monkgate or the bare bones of it. I don’t know all the particulars as the game was before my time and I’m ridiculously lazy about reading past games.

Monkgate, in the barest bones, was a really boneheaded move by me (because I was a mason who didn’t speak up in time) in which town almost had a situation where some masons were unconfirmable. Story was one of the other masons but he was, IIRC, out of play by that point. The only reason scum didn’t get a mason lynch out of it were twofold–the fourth mason (who had been highly close to asking for a modkill out of frustration) came back in time, and the two scum posing as masons were neither the best actors/liars out there.

I do need to review my vote (this is one reason why subbing out is a pain in the ass - thanks for nothing, pedescribe), but I was swamped yesterday and did not have much time to play. A lot has happened and I need to review before I comment. Will do so today.

Anyway, Jimmy, to toss the ball back at you, why do you not even have a vote on anyone?

I guess it really is a question of whether pedescribe was being weird because pedescribe is weird or if it was because our role is scum. But if I look scummy to you, well… I’m not so much on the chopping block today so I’m not sweating too badly. :stuck_out_tongue:

First thing I noticed today was Chronos, but that’s been thoroughly picked up and run with. It looks like the case went from no votes to eight votes in between my visits to this thread, so that’s pretty much spoken for. I don’t like to tack a vote onto a case like that with so much time left without pitching around first for other ideas, so here I am.

NETA: today meaning toDay, of course. I guess I should do a better job with that distinction.

Barging in for a moment to defend myself. It may be true that I wasn’t a great actor/liar, but FTR I was opposed to it, and basically dragged into it against my will.

Continue with your game.

Come on dude. Yes I sucked but I knew it was a horrible idea. I had no choice but to go along with that farce after I was dragged into it. OK it’s wrong to barge into the game, but but if someone calls me a crap player I am going to respond. OK, that’s the last I’ll comment on this.

Lot of crickets in here – or is it just that everyone’s at work?

OK, so per Jimmy’s (reasonable) request, I am revisiting my vote on LPN (nee pedescribe). Here’s the post in question:

Here’s my original vote post on him:

I had a lot more to say about **pedescribe’s **vote for Rysto than I revealed when I voted, but I was holding some things in reserve until pedescribe responded. I was hoping to get him talking, but apparently I just got him running away  I have that effect on people. I am now emptying the bag, as Archie Goodwin would put it:

**Pedescribe’s **vote for Rysto really stuck out to me in context because it is so fucking ridiculous. I mean, I can hardly think of a stupider reason to vote for someone. The rationale is basically “I can’t believe you haven’t voted for me due to my low participation, so I’m going to vote for you.” It’s patently absurd. Pedescribe is not a newbie, he had to know it’s an insane reason to vote for someone. So why do it?

Let’s look at the context:
277 – Day Three starts
280 – Rysto votes for Red Skeezix
284 – I make a (devastating;)) case against and vote for Red Skeezix
288 – Chipacabra votes for Red Skeezix
289 – OAOW votes for Red Skeezix

The Skeezix train is definitely rolling now. 4 votes and no one else in sight.

296 – **Pedescribe’s **insane vote for Rysto
299 – Jimmy votes for pedescribe
300 – Skeezix votes for pedescribe

See what happened there? We went from 4 votes and a head of steam on Skeezix to 4-2 with potential momentum on pedescribe. Skeezix claims at the same time, however, and any thought of lynching pedescribe quickly vanishes, with Skeezix later happily going down in flames.

So, knowing now that Skeezix was Voldemort and leader of the scum, does pedescribe’s vote make sense? It does, to me, from a Scum standpoint: Scum Leader is catching serious heat, so Scum Non-Leader tries to take a bullet by offering up one of the most ludicrous votes in the history of mafia. Is there a town motivation for that vote? None that I can think of. Was pedescribe just being lazy and tossing a vote out there for no reason? Maybe, but that’s still anti-town behavior.

So, my vote is staying on LPN, substitution aside, because I see plenty of scum motivation in pede’s vote and no town motivation, and roles don’t change with substitutions. I’m also not sold on the Chronos wagon right now, but it’s probably a foregone conclusion anyway.
