I was going to post the first part a couple of days ago and didn’t, then just a few minutes ago came up with the second, so I will post both posits in one thread.
1> In watching the HP movies on the Family Channel, I see a lot of extended scenes that are not on the DVD releases. I’ve google searched and found discussion of them, but they don’t appear to be commercially available. What’s the deal with this and why have they NOT been released?
2> Without wanting/needing to wade through a lot of crap to find a few jewels, can people point me at any good HP fanfic stuff? I’m not interested in Slash (although others might be).
3> Now that I get that far, post your ideas for Potterverse stories that JKR could write to make more money extend the franchise.
Having watched GoF the other day, I can posit one idea for a non-Harry-centric book;
Barty Crouch Jr (played by David Tennant) was revealed to be one of the people who tortured Neville’s parents. At the end of the book, he was returned to Azkhaban. Now I don’t recall any specific mention in Hallows of Barty Crouch, so I can only assume that he survived and is either on the loose or is in Azkhaban.
What if he were to escape, three years after the end of Hallows, and with some help from other lesser DA members, Neville was to go after him?
At this point, even though it’s said that HP becomes Head Auror, I have a hard time believing that a 17 (now 20) year old kid with no real world experience is the REAL Head Auror. Oh, he might have the title as a show, but he’s definitely still going to be learning the ropes and trying to master all the paperwork and administrative skills at that point. Ginny, Ron and Hermoine also have their own careers going. So we can keep them relegated to being short, supporting roles or even Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Film mentions of them being off doing something else at the time.
Book (and Film) wise, it gives everyone a chance to reconnect to what their heroes are doing just a few years after Hallows. It gives secondary characters a chance to shine without it being The Harry Potter Show. It creates and enemy and a danger (oh, you can add in more escaped Death Eaters to make it more dangerous and allow little victories along the way), and in the end, it creates a one-shot post Who role for Tennant.
And I like Neville Longbottom.
