So my wife and I are big Harry Potter fans, and have been planning to get Blu rays of all the movies now that they’re all out.
We’d like to get a definitive set with lots of neat extra features, deleted scenes, behind the scenes documentaries, etc.
So there’s this monstrosity, which I would have said was exactly what we wanted… except that the customer reviews point out that it only has extended editions of two of the movies, even though extended editions of other movies in fact exist, so presumably an even more ultimate collection will come out at some point (plus we don’t really want to pay extra for little maps and decals and so forth).
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
thanks
No matter what the current best choice is, there will be a bigger and better edition down the road to gouge fans. This applies to any franchise.
OK, color me clueless, but I thought only two of them had extended cuts, making that set complete.
None of the movies have had commentaries released. I am disappointed by this, if anything needs a thorough look at such an epic series, in a Lord of the Rings Extended Editions way with tracks from directors, the producer, writer, Jo Rowling, the cast, the effects and art direction crew, etc, it’s Harry Potter. So I’m waiting for that edition to eventually exist.
Well, I guess that’s part of what I’m wondering about. Some of the Amazon.com comments seemed to imply that there had been versions broadcast on TV with extra footage, implying that there might well be extended versions in the future, etc.
Apparently there’s a bunch of deleted scenes from the movies that have yet to see release in any form. David Yates said that Order of the Phoenix got cut by 45 minutes, and the other films also have good chunks of footage left unreleased. This release looks to be a simple repackaging of existing releases. I’d expect another release in a few years, big cash-cow franchises like this usually get new edition nearly every 5 years or so
