I totally deserved it. I went off like a shrieking harpy on some poor dude who was telling a 20 year old story that involved messing around on a boat or something. What he was recounting wasn’t going to win him any Safety Awards, but you’d have thought he was holding puppies at gunpoint that very minute the way I went off on him. I don’t recall any of the details at this point, just that I was horribly embarrassed “the morning after”, and the Pitting was short and sweet as soon as I came in and apologized profusely (and sincerely.)
Not that I’m aware of. I don’t usually ever actually enter The Pit as a whole. I just click on the link to specific threads that have been most recently posted in when viewed from the main page.
As one of the board’s maybe three vocal conservative posters, I’ve done my time in the Pit. A big one was about Iluminatiprimus and DADT. I just wish people would either stick with Chessic Dense or Non Sense. The other names you people come up with suck!
Wow, same here, Kyla. I just vanity-searched “Dorkness” in the Pit, and there’s three threads. One of them is by me, discussing a wager that I made with a crazy man. The other two are posters apologizing to me.
Weird. I’ve certainly gotten into it with people in the Pit before (not recently, though: having a job that actually requires work cuts down on my time for random vitriol), but not enough to be pitted by name. In five minutes, I’ll search for LHOD.
Not directly, but a few of my GD threads have spun off Pit threads - including a ten-pager started by ivan astikov against xtisme, which backfired rather badly - the only one referencing me in the Pit when I search ‘Kobayashi’ (the others are about the Kobayashi Maru or some competitive eater I’ve never heard of), one where wmfellows pitted E-Sabbath and at least one more I can’t remember.
Never been pitted myself, although an offhand comment I made about a certain breed of dog got things heated in IMHO, so I said take it to the Pit - instead took it to GD.
I picked “multiple pits”, but only for the value of multiple meaning “one more than one.” To the best of my knowledge, I’ve been pitted twice:
Someone was asking in a GQ thread how to do something in Word, and I suggested off the cuff that it would be better to abandon Word and switch to Word Perfect. I think the Pitter thought that was thread-shitting; fair enough; I didn’t bother to respond.
I spelt a word with a ligature (I think it was “Pædiatrics” instead of “Pediatrics”). Someone pitted me for my pretentiousness. I just shook my head and didn’t bother responding.
It seems a sort of pitiful record, really - for these two things, I get Pitted?!? :dubious:
I guess I’m a fairly innocuous poster, but I do have the capacity to irritate on a narrow spectrum.
I don’t tend to be controversial, and I generally don’t rise above the level of annoying. But I’ve never searched, either, and I don’t spend much time in The Pit. So, of course, now I’m going to look.
Only once by name (and then along with a group of other posters).
Once sort of indirectly when a poster launched into a rant about the subject matter of a thread I’d started. I wasn’t named in the Pit thread, nor was the Pit thread linked in the original thread.
I started a Pit thread about people not wanting to do “team-building exercises”. Someone told me to “take a nap”.
