Has a saint helped you lately?

Can anyone give an example of a saint intervening on their behalf?

Does Saint John’s Wort count?

How about St. Semillia?

Growing up in Minnesota, legislature hailed from St. Paul and they built our roads and send us our tax returns (well, not the federal ones… or the interstates…)

St. Cloud Minnesota is nice too.

St. Ides has done me nothing but harm.

Yes, I have been helped by a couple of saints, but more so by one very dear to me. She’s known as “St. Mary”, “Santa Maria”, or just - Mary. Her most important title, though, is the Mother of God. She helps me tremendously, as recently as today. I’m currently conducting a study on Mary over on the LBB.

Whenever I spend too much time helping her for Christ, she helps me get “all the details of the day” done “lickety-split” with time to spare. It’s amazing.

Another dear saint helped me once. Her name is St. Rita. I couldn’t afford to get into the city to visit my friend in the hospital, nor could I get a babysitter, etc. I found a holy card that was sitting around and I read her story. Never heard of her before. It seems she knew what it was like to be married, broke, pressured, upset, etc. So, I prayed to my Lord, deeply, and thought about St. Rita and her problems, congratulating her on how she overcame things in her lifetime.

About an hour later, through a number of ensuing incidences, I was walking into one of my best friend’s hospital rooms, with a beaming smile to brighten his day. He SO brightened mine, as he had done since we were both little kids.

Did St. Rita create a miracle for me? No, absolutely not. She did help quiet me down, though, so I could truly commune with my God. That’s how I got to where I needed to be. It was my friend’s last birthday celebration, his 39th. He died six months later from AIDS.

Yeah, saints help us. I didn’t have a clue who St. Rita was at 4:00 pm., nor did I (or would I), search around for holy cards to get me out of jams. It just needed to be found; God knew I was distressed. By 7:00 pm, I was thanking My Savior, Who is Jesus Christ, for His miracle, and smiling “up” at Rita, giving her a warm smile, a wink, and a friendly salute.

It’s all about the “communion of saints” thing we Catholics got goin’ on. Blessings!

This is most certainly not a great debate.

This show be closed.

It COULD be, if anyone would care to discuss the concept of sainthood and intervention. I’ll leave that for our good moderator to decide.

St. Pauli Girl has helped me on more occassions than I care to count.

I was waiting for that one! The suspense was killing me.

Hmmm. Well, this thread has the possibility of turning into a religious-type debate about saints intervening. On the other hand, it has the possibility of staying a mostly MPSIMS chat. Since it could go either way, and it started here, I’m going to leave it here. Better than shooting it to MPSIMS and then having to have it brought back because it reverted to a debate.

Has a saint helped me lately?

Hardly.

Their record is more pathetic than even the 49ers this season.

Yeah, but they did beat Dallas! Woohoo!

Is there a patron saint of sarcasm? I may build him a shrine after this . . .

DavidB, I feel you are making the right decision, but not necessarily for the reason you cite (greater-than-zero possibility of the thread developing into a debate). IMHO, the question of saintly intercession (not intervention (the wording in the OP notwithstanding), which, unless I am mistaken, is assumed to be a divine prerogative, even by those denominations that hold the canonization of saints to be a valid spiritual action of human beings) must be directly tied to the issue of whether there is, in reality, a communion of saints to do any interceding. This may in fact be a worthy topic for debate, and if the thread goes that way, it won’t be the first hijack perpretrated on the SDMB. But I fear that the debate postulated in your decision does not appear to be possible, in view of the question being begged. Indeed, it is possible that the only debate likely to emerge on this thread is the question of whether this is a “Great Debate” or is not.

Nevertheless, leaving the thread here is the correct decision. The OP evidently is inviting some “witnessing”, and, as such, this is the forum for it (cf., the stated purpose of the Great Debates forum).

Having said that, I would like to contribute that an image of Jill Saint John on a poster that I had in my bedroom when I was a teenager was a source of great comfort to me on many otherwise lonely evenings. If you get my drift.

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum. This probably should have been in MPSIMS. Blame it on a my being a newbie (I’ve only been posting for about a week). I saw alot of religious topics debated here, and thought this would be the correct forum. I am still interested in hearing people tell stories of saints interceding (thanks, kay) on their behalf. How about it David? Should I post this question fresh in MPSIMS?

I’ve posted this question in MPSIMS.

Wait, I’ve got a question.

I…er…uh…um…ah…jeez louise. I forgot it!

Aw, nuts!

David, I thought I was the only N.O. Saints fan here. Or do you just hate Dallas that much?

Soup asked:

No. Whoops! Too late.

Seriously, although your question took a quick turn to the sarcastic, most religious questions generally belong here. It’s possible to have on related to religion which doesn’t turn into a debate, but it’s rare.

UncleBeer: I just hate Dallas that much. But I do like Ditka also.
