Has anyone else never ridden in the back seat of their own car?

I just realized tonight that Ive owned my car for 3 years and have never even sat in the back, much less ridden in the back, of my own vehicle. In fact I can’t think of any time I’ve ridden in the back seat of any car I’ve owned. This struck me as strange for some reason.

Questions to answer:

Have you ridden in the backseat of your own car before?
How long have you owned it?
If you have ridden in back why did you and who was driving?
If you have not have you at least SAT in back?

Have you ridden in the backseat of your own car before? - I don’t think so, because I’m just about the only one who drives my car (partly because the main two other people who would’ve had an opportunity couldn’t drive stick shift). If one of my parents are driving, we generally take their car or there is just the tow of us.

Mom points out I might have one time the family went up to my grandparents. My mom or dad would be driving.

How long have you owned it? - since 2004

If you have not have you at least SAT in back? - often. I usually have lunch lounging in the back.

How long have you owned it? Since 2007
If you have ridden in back why did you and who was driving? It used to be my grandfather’s car. I rode in the back when he still owned it and would drive us around when we visited him. The last time was when I was about 15. Since the car was passed on to me, I have never ridden in the back. I think I’ve only even had passengers back there once, when I gave 2 friends a ride from the (closer) lot I was parked in to their cars in a lot farther away. On the rare occasions I have passengers, they almost always ride shotgun and my backseat is full of junk.

Is this the most bizarre thread you’ve seen started on the SDMB today? Nah. It did give me pause, though, as in “There’s a mundane question that I’ve never thought about!”

My car will be 10 years old in November, and I’ve never sat anywhere but in the driver’s seat. Nor have I had any reason to.

Yes. We have two cars, one my wife drives primarily and one I drive primarily. I know I have ridden in the back seat of hers many times, and I think my Fit which I’ve had about 2 years I must have been in the back at some point. My wife or kid would have been driving.

Have you ridden in the backseat of your own car before?
Before when? But yes, I have.
How long have you owned it?
About a year-ish.
If you have ridden in back why did you and who was driving?
I didn’t feel like driving, so my husband drove. I sat in the back so I could converse with one of the other passengers.
If you have not have you at least SAT in back?
(Not applicable.)

Probably not. I’m sure someone started a thread dealing with bodily functions. Those tend to get weird because of the TMI, IMO.

not really

Yes, coming back from a backpacking trip and very tired, I went back there to rest. At the time the car was about 6 months old, bought new, now 6 yrs. Another one on the trip drove for a bit. There were 4 of us 2 m/f couples and the person who offered to drive was in the other couple, so they sat together in the front.

I’ve owned my car for about seven years, and rode in the back seat for the first time last Christmas, when the only way we could fit in the stupid tree we’d bought was to put it in the passenger seat. I don’t remember why I wasn’t driving, but it felt very strange.

How long have you owned it? the Neon since 2004, the Mustang since 1.5 months ago.

If you have not have you at least SAT in back? the Neon? yes. What the Mustang has isn’t a back seat, it’s penance.

I’ve been driving since 1976. I don’t think I’ve ever riden in the back seat of one of my cars. I have sat in the back I’m sure. But just to see how much room there is or to clean.

Have you ridden in the backseat of your own car before?
A handful of times.

How long have you owned it?
Five years

If you have ridden in back why did you and who was driving?
My husband and I bought something that was long enough we needed to fold down the front seat to fit it in, like a rug or Christmas tree.

Yeah, but I just got up.

Mixed answer. The Family Truckster, I have many times. The Beretta POS that I have as my go to work car, no, because I’m the only one that drives it. I’ve been in the back seat a couple of times to do stuff like change brake lights. but it was always parked.

I have a 1997 Acura Integra. As Consumer Reports said the year I bought it: The back seat is little more than a glorified grocery shelf.

The dog goes back there on long trips or if someone is in the front seat.

But grown up humans just won’t fit well.

And I guess, to actually answer the question: No, I’ve never ridden in the back seat of my car.

Yes, I’ve ridden in the back of both our truck (purchased in 2005) and car (purchased in 2002). All times were due to us riding with a friend(s). I offer the front passenger seat to the guys because they have long legs and need more leg room then I do.

I have a friend who’s the worst backseat driver ever! I figured out long ago the only way to deal the incessant bitching is to let him drive regardless of whose car it may be; this does not stop him from bitching and talking to himself non-stop but at least not directed toward my driving… I don’t enjoy driving much anyway (just the ugly human nature that exudes out when people drive and the constant cat n’ mouse game with speed traps etc… how many traffic cops/court judges drive the exact posted speed limit? Well I guess that’s besides the point :dubious: ).

I’ve even sat in the backseat of my own cars chatting with other friends and it is quite enjoyable. There are things in your car that you never knew existed and how comfy it is: it is entirely different thing than sitting in someone else’s backseat. I’ve always wanted a chauffeur and that’s as close as I can have one.

I’ve ridden in the back seat of my car (2000 Saturn). One of my parents was probably driving, and it was probably part of a significant roadtrip.

Sometimes I’ll ask that someone else drive my car, just so that I can experience riding in the backseat. I like it! (I only do this if I’m with two or more other people because riding in the backseat with nobody in the passenger’s seat is too weird.) I’ve also slept in the backseat numerous times when I was too drunk to drive home.

Back in the day, I had a couple of pretty wild rides in the backseat of the car I owned, but it was parked at the time. Ah, adolescence, fond memories.
