I haven’t meditated in about a week and a half, before then i was meditating almost daily. Because i’ve felt bad for the last few days i decided to try again. Instead of the boring normal meditation i almost blacked out and during several periods felt like i was sliding around. Anyone ever had that? I dont know if i fell asleep or if something else happened. Either way i feel alot better than i did before i meditated.
I get that sometimes, too. I’ll notice a sinking kind of feeling when I really deeply relax. It’s a little unnerving, like I’m falling into the floor. I’m glad I’m not the only one!
When meditation “works” for me I feel as though I am being bathed in a bright light (but my eyes are still closed.)
I get the slidey feeling when I am drifting off to sleep. I wish I could meditate sitting up to avoid this, but it makes my back sore.
I’ve gotten the sliding falling spinning feeling since I was very small. I enjoy it. When I learned to drink heavily in college, the room spinning thing made my friends sick, but it made me more comfortable.
It happens when I’m on the computer often too.
I’ve gotten that feeling (or what I think you mean) when I get deep into the meditative state. I realized that I was slowing and shallowing my breathing so much I think I was suffering from oxygen depletion.

My first thought was to ask if you were forgetting to breath. I think StGermain has it right in that it’s a form of oxygen deprivation.
Work on your breathing.
I haven’t meditated in years, but I used to get this sensation that was best described as being pushed down on my entire body. It actually first occurred as a kid in this recurring dream I’d have and it used to scare the hell out of me. I’d have this image of, say, a baseball being tossed to me, then it would suddenly become a boulder and it would press into me, giving me a sort of vertigo-like feeling. I’d wake up then and it could take an hour before I could get back to sleep.
Anyway, in college I was meditating once and that same feeling started. At first I freaked out but then I let it go and it actually felt kind of cool.
I’m not sure exactly what it was but I believe it related to sensory deprivation. After sitting motionless for a while I lost the sense of feeling the seat under me and in my mind I started to lose my sense of direction as a result. I know I used to get that floaty feeling in the tub on occasion, so I’m guessing they’re related.
