My 28-year-old brother died suddenly on Friday, leaving behind a wife, three stepchildren and one biological child. His only income was Social Security disability. They do not have a lot of money or potential for income, as his widow is also physically unable to work due to a heart condition (I think).
I am interested in setting up a memorial fund to benefit the family. I’ve never done anything like this before, and don’t know where to start. I am in Indianapolis, and they are in the Scranton, PA area. Should I try contacting a bank with branches in both locations? Should I use word-of-mouth and accept donations to a personal Paypal account? Has anyone ever used www.fundable.org? Are there legal hoops to jump through?
Any help/advice/personal experience stories would be appreciated. Thanks.
