Has anyone here had a face-lift?

Hi…

I have recently decided to have a face-lift. It’s not a decision I made lightly. I have done a tremendous amount of research and picked my surgeon very carefully.

Over the past sixteen months I have lost 131 lbs. It was due to a successful gastric bypass operation. I am 49 years old and my skin has not all gone back. I can accept that my boobs are drooping, my arms are flabby, I have a lot of skin sagging on my tummy and butt…but, I can’t accept that my face has fallen as well.

It’s within my means monetarily to do this. I’m scared and know it’s gonna hurt like hell, but I’m getting a face lift and brow lift as well as getting my upper and lower eyelids done. I don’t expect to ever look like a young girl again, but I will have the “definition” in my face back.

There are risks and I am willing to accept that. My husband is supportive and so are my parents. No one is pressuring me. My husband says that he thinks I am beautiful the way I am and even 131 lbs. ago thought I was beautiful. So, I’m doing this for one person and one person only…me.

Has anyone on the Straight Dope had a similar surgery? If so, what was it like? Did it hurt? What were your results like? How long were you laid up? Do you have any advice for me?

Thanks in advance…also, thanks for “listening.” I’m looking forward to getting it done, but still scared.

I’m only 28 and haven’t had any cosmetic surgery (yet - you never know), but just wanted to say good luck and all the best!

I haven’t had it, but I’m seriously considering a tummy tuck if I can maintain my current weight loss for a year.

Best of luck to you - and don’t forget the before-and-after pix!

I have not had any surgery, either, although would consider a chin lift (or whatever it’s called when they do away with the jowl-y stuff) if I ended up having the gravitational effects that my mom has.

My friend’s aunt had a similar procedure done and did not want everyone at work to know about it. When consulting with her surgeon about how to go about that, he suggested that she get a new hair style after the healing was underway. When she went back to work, everyone noticed the new hair style and just assumed that’s why she looked “so different”. She had a good reason for doing it as well—it was purely for herself, and she felt that her sagging face made her look much, much older than she was. She has never regretted it.
