I neither know, nor care that I don’t know much about the (sigh) [stuck record] “current financial situation” [/stuck record] but I do know that I am rather annoyed that MY life can be affected by the irresponsibility of a few W/Bankers and of a policy of giving them free reign.
As far as I can make out - mine and everyone else’s future is uncertain because a small number of people with too much money wanted to make more money, and a few countries had decided it’s a good idea to let them.
We shouldn’t live in a world where the ‘man on the street’ is linked (against his/her will) to the fortunes or irresponsibilities of the wankers who control the world’s wealth.
and nobody complained when they were making money, so if you were blissfully ignorant and reaping the benefits then, it takes some of the sting out of being willfully ignorant and complaining now.
Who says I was reaping the benefits? I avoided credit wherever possible. Why shouldn’t I complain about the fact that the greed of the few has made things worse for the rest of us?
The invisible hand of the market will take care of all of it in the long run. Same thing with organized crime. People will see that this is not the kind of inefficiency that they want to pay the premium to support and will go to competitors. It is, of course, a self-sealing argument full of bullshit.
I just finished reading The Devil in the White City, which is about the Chicago World’s Fair in the late 19th century. They were entering a recession and banks were failing. What were the bank executives doing? Jumping out of buildings. During the Depression, same thing.
Now, I would never, EVER want someone to feel like they had to resort to that and I would never wish that level of despair on anyone, but could we please see maybe a little despair? Maybe some tearful apologies or something? Anything besides continual raping of the system?
It’s too simple and easy to blame it all on the bankers. Many people participated, and made money, from the real estate bubble. Ordinary people, like you, and the tax man.
