Apparently they debuted in October, but I just found out about them a few weeks ago. They are M&M candies with a salted pretzel nugget in the middle, surrounded by the customary milk chocolate and candy shell.
I don’t know, the salt and chocolate really don’t seem to mix well together. They taste about the way I imagine that Chef’s salty chocolate balls would taste. I don’t think I’ll be buying another bag.
Chocolate-covered pretzels have been around for years, although IME they’re a love-it-or-hate-it item. My college roommate won a giant canister of them about twelve years ago, and spent weeks peeling the chocolate off the pretzels so that she could eat them separately.
Agree with OP and GilaB…it’s a love it or hate it affair. Yuch! But this company spends lots of money in market research. They feel there’s enough love-its out there to make it a target.
Holy crap. If I see those, I’ll have to snatch them all up. I’m not much for sweets, but chocolate-covered salted pretzels are a weakness of mine. Salt and chocolate are just a perfect combo.
Salt and chocolate are perfect together! The ice cream store down the block even puts bowls of pretzels out to eat with your ice cream!
I bought a bag of the pretzel M&M’s last week, and at first wasn’t impressed…not salty enough! Then I started eating them using my Whoppers candy eating technique…nibbling the chocolate off of them and then crunching the center…bliss. I soon ate way too many and got sick. My son then stole the bag from me (for my own good, he said) and devoured it. While they aren’t The Best Thing Evah, they are a nice change…not quite as sweet as some M&M’s, which is a good thing. I just wish they had them in the small individual size bags…I could only find the two giant size, family packs at Wal-Mart, which so far is the only place I’ve seen them.
I haven’t been able to find the coconut M&Ms. Unfortunate, because I do love coconut. I thought the peanut butter and strawberry ones were quite good, though.
Don’t get too excited. The coconut M&Ms don’t contain any actual coconut, just artificial flavor. They’re rather disappointing, and I love both M&Ms and coconut.
Yes to both. Salt and sugar together is delicious. Trader Joe’s sells a dark chocolate bark with pretzel pieces. So very good. And I love putting pretzel sticks in with my ice cream.
I love chocolate-covered pretzels, but I thought these were just ok. I actually preferred the old “crispy m&ms,” which are not manufactured anymore as far as I’m aware…
The coconut ones are also ok, but Almond Joy Pieces seem to be a better alternative (with actual little flecks of coconut in the chocolate)
I love chocolate covered pretzels, so I would like to try these M&Ms. Where have you been able to find them?
I have tried the peanut butter & jelly M&Ms (mentioned above) and didn’t like them much. 1 or 2 were okay, but I definitely would not want a whole bag.
