If a society delegates its leadership roles to mendacity ingrained lawyers; avarice afflicted banksters; career fixated, establishment cokewolds et al., is it any wonder that that society gets taken to the Chinese dry cleaners?
When will the West bring cessation to this self-defeating and immolating, recidivist behaviour of sociopathic materialism and begin to learn to derive the brain’s pleasure-causing chemical releases from more fruitful endeavours than nihilistic, infantile-minded hording of wealth, that coming at anyone’s (even their own / own children’s) expense?
Or is it too all late – have corporations sold us too far down the toxic Yangtze already, leaving us only with the recourse of floating further out, past the effluent estuary, into oblivion; or taking the more humane and dignified route, and drowning ourselves now – while we still have the option to do so…?
Pathological greed was how the West became powerful in the first place. Spanish gold, pepper from India, tea from China, bananas from Nicaragua… The great empires of history are trade empires.
Please take the time out from your work-a-day, battery iHuman lives to watch the linked-to documentary. It’s less than 90 minutes of your lives invested into something that will affect you and your progeny; like it or not.
If it’s contents does not interest you – thank you for your time, goodspeed and see you in hell.
Otherwise, this post is not meant as a troll thread. This is an attempt to save the Occident from its demise.
If it is that important to you, then you shouldn’t mind highlighting any specific points made in that video in your own words that you think apply to our country(“Occidental”? Really?).
(bolding mine) Are you trying to drive people away?
But it’s fun!

Way too long. I’ve gotta check the stock quotes.
A healthy appetite
is good for one and all
I should be at peace with the world baby
But still I want some more
Wake up sheeple. One of my professors pointed me to this video on Youtube. I don’t understand it enough to summarise it. you gotta watch it for yourself. It really opened my eyes.
90 minutes is a large time commitment to ask of a stranger.
I have no progeny.
“Occident,” which is obsolescent if not obsolete, sounds like one of those words racists use as a thinly-disguised code for When the World Was White and Therefore Awesome (unless you’re not white, or a woman, or gay, etc.). The references to China in the OP did nothing to dispell that impression. If there’s a reason you’re using Occident instead of West that isn’t covert racism, I’d appreciate a clarification.
Also, it’s is the contraction of “it is.” You want the possessive pronoun, which has no apostrophe.
Ok…so, I’ve actually seen this documentary on the History Channel, and I follow China Uncensored. That said, I’m unsure of my translation from the standard iLemming into English using old Aramaic as a bridge language and an old copy of Swahili for Dummy’s.
So, my guess is that you are pissed off about China flooding the West, particularly the US with cheap goods that are manufactured in China using exploited workers (or even slave/prison labor in some cases), while China pollutes itself into one of the worst ecological disasters in history? And that you see this as self-destructive to the West because we have lost all those good, juicy manufacturing jobs to China and all for filthy lucre?
I think the History Channel ‘documentary’ was more thana little off on a bunch of points, and that the reality isn’t nearly so gloom and doom (for the US…I think China is going to hit the wall at some point, and I think that point will be in this decade). It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, but I seem to recall a lot of the stuff it was asserting were either wrong or spun. Like the $3 trillion in US debt that China supposedly owns, and that this is increasing. In actuality China owns about the same percentage of US debt as Japan, and it’s decreasing, not increasing. By far, the US and it’s citizens are the largest holder of US debt. Not that China holding that debt or not holding it is all that important. You have to understand what that debt represents to understand why China can’t just call it in…and why it would hurt them more than us to try and divest themselves of it suddenly.
As for the jobs going to China it’s not like if we stopped importing cheap goods form China those jobs would stream back into the US. We will never go back to that sort of high payed low skilled manufacturing. Not in the era of automation. As for China, they are probably moving past those jobs themselves, as it’s hurting them to continue to do what they have been doing, but economically and ecologically, as well as politically. The CCP has and continues to hurt their own image with their own people, and as they tighten the screws the people come that much closer to tossing them out. If you look at this CNN article there is a handy graphy mid-way down showing that strikes China have been on the rise since 2013…and this is just one indication of protest, which has also been on the rise for the past 10 years throughout China.
I think you’d have gotten more positive responses if you actually laid out an argument and what you wanted to discuss, instead of…well, whatever it is you did. If you want to talk about China’s ecological damage, then lay out questions about that. If you want to talk about China’s economic and trade policies and how they affect the US or the West, or how and why the CCP is doing what they are doing, then just ask the questions directly. Just a thought.
Occidental and Oriental aren’t racist. They are just somewhat archaic. Sometimes people like to use a ginormous word when a miniscule word would suffice.
I’m among those who had no idea that “Occidental” held racist connotations for some people. I’m also an Android and PC guy. And a Capricorn. And someone who revels in the idea of amassing as much “filthy lucre” as possible.
