Has there ever been a Straight Dope Convention?

I was thinking the other day (probably in the shower - seem to do my best thinking in there) about how we have little local Dopefests all the time, but have we ever had an International All Dopers Straight Dope Convention? Would anyone want one? Where would we have it, if we had one? How would all of that work? Would Cecil Adams show up?

IIRC, there have been a couple of attempts to get a giant Dopefest going in Vegas, but I don’t know how they have ever panned out.

I’d be up for one, but it would depend on when it was held.

The large NYC and Chicago fests are very close to that, with people cominf from as far as Sweden (Hi, soda!).

In fact, the NYC ones have gotten so large and unwieldly that the main organizer has just about given up on it. Maybe one day we’ll have a NY Megafest that’s not in the winter. We could have Dopefest Beach Party Bingo!

I met some Dopers this spring, and it went well, so now I’m ready to meet ALL the Dopers! Wow, what a concept. Meeting the legendary TVeblen, manhattan, eve, gobear…just wow.

(Yes, I know, these famous Dopers all put their lederhosen on one leg at a time…)

Newbies would have to match the username to the Doper.

Also, banned Dopers would have to be the wait-staff :D.
