But it doesn’t make the fact that twickster doesn’t practice what she preaches any less important. Now do you expect me to start another ATMB thread about this subject if I want to further discuss it? Or can I do it in this thread?
Yes, it would be a waste of time.
I’d like you to stick to the thread topic (assuming there is one). I also suggest you avoid cliches like the plague. ![]()
Thanks. Finito it is.
Irishman,
I’m not offended at all. Mostly I just read the board and don’t add much. I don’t think twickster is a good mod overall, that’s no secret. I like this place and I’ll contribute to making it better if I can. Someone opened this Twix thread so I give my two cents.
It’s just my opinion. Maybe I’m right, maybe I’m wrong, maybe it doesn’t matter. But this forum and this thread is for poster questions and contributions and this is mine.
Dopers are quirky bunch. The very weird thread titles and subjects down through the years testifies to that fact (pan fried semen!?). Occasionally (for example) Twix will shut down a thread she deems too mundane. When posters complain about it in droves here, it falls on deaf ears. As a way of counter example, once when Ellen did that, several of us complained that we were having a good time with that particular thread she came back and said, ‘sorry, I’ll open it back up’. Mind you I’m not talking about rape or anything, just a light hearted nonsense topic.
But twix is a mod. She has that right. That doesn’t mean some posters won’t like it.
But the bigger point (which Marley is trying like crazy to shut down) is her pattern of talking down to members. I asked up thread why, if we only have twickster’s own words to go by, does she seem to be such a polarizing mod. I notice no one ha took a swing at it yet. And as much as you might think I’m wrong one way, supporters like Marley err just as much the other way.
Long post short (I know, too late), yes I think she is not cut out for this job and the board would be better off without her (as a mod only, I’m fine with her as a member), but in the scheme of things I could honestly care less. Clone her and make the whole mod force her for all I care. I’ll keep happily reading the board. I’m not offended, but since I have the option to voice my opinion, I will.
ETA: clarity
For the record just the other day was in fact 42 days earlier, and my only other warning was seven months prior. Sure, I’ve stepped over the line, but I don’t think that Don Rickles need fear me.
Not quite. It was Monday.
Just my 2 cents. I work in the restaurant business. If you had a server who you received customer complaints about on this level, regardless of how you personally feel about her performance, you would me a bad manager if you did not at least sit her down and have a talk about customer service and maintaining a good public face.
Complaints from customers who were directly affected by said poor service, yes. How would you react to customers that came back and received decent service from said server this time, and yet continued to complain about the previous service? How about complaints from friends of those who received poor service but weren’t there when it happened?
How would you react if you had former servers who no longer worked for you, but kept hanging around the restaurant David Brent style? Say this former server keeps telling the customers about the daily specials and generally horning in on the jobs supposed to be performed by the employees. I’d guess it would irritate the customers and employees alike.
Do you know for a fact that this is not precisely what poor **Twickster’s **life is like? I imagine her in Marley’s office, getting chewed out severely, like a puppy that’s pooped on the Oriental rug for the 600th time, looking shamefaced at the floor while boss **Marley ** rants at her, sorta like this: “Goddammit, Twickster, how many fucking times do we need to go over this? For Chrissakes, girl, how fucking hard is it to be nicer to people? Or even just ‘civil’? I’ll gladly settle for civil at this point, and ‘mildly rude’ is looking attractive. Do you enjoy getting summoned into NYC every few days, just so I can repeat myself yet again? I had to defend you THREE more times since the last time we spoke, last Thursday, and you give me NOTHING to defend you with, BUPKIS, JACK-FUCKING-SQUAT. I have to pretend it’s no big deal, that you’re doing fine as a Mod, that you get no more complaints than any other Mod, that all the complaints about you are unreasonable ones-- I can’t go on making up this shit much longer. This is it–if you don’t clean up your act and stop going off on posters every time you get the itch, you will be fired as a Mod, and I mean it, do you hear me? By 2014, at the latest. Or maybe 2015. What the hell. Let’s say, if you don’t stop telling posters offensive shit by 2020, I promise I will fire you, and I’ll tell the world why. Now get the hell out of here, right this second. And don’t slam the door again. Wait, let’s take another photo, so we can tell posters how well you and I get along. Chin up, and --SMILE!!”
BTW, shouldn’t the thread title be “Has Twickster finally jumped the snark?” That’s how I keep reading it, anyway.
How about “customers’ who never even pay for the service, what do we call them - “guests”?
Hi MIB. I’m guessing that Twickster has been told not to insult people outside the Pit. That she’s a repeat offender (although not in this case since she was explaining the rules violation) is bad. But it is a volunteer position that requires time and devotion; subjects one to abuse; and involves providing extended, precisely phrased responses to questions – often dumb, antagonistic questions.
In a previous Twickster thread, I compared her to an unpaid deputy that keeps drunks from pissing in the town fountains. The deputy may have some minor flaws, but how easy would it be to recruit a better person to do the job for the same money?
I’ve never quite understood this complaint, so maybe you could help me out.
For example, I’ve bought a subscription to the Dope every year it’s been offered since day one. However, because everyone may not know me (Inconceivable!) and at some point I could let that lapse due to being broke, would the criticism then be leveled at me that I have no right to voice any concerns here because I’m only a “guest”? Just curious.
I paid for Dope membership one year, but let it lapse - I didn’t have the coveted Charter title to keep. Now I think of myself more as an “unpaid content provider” and generator of ad-revenue-making site hits.
Look, I hardly ever pull the “freeloader’ card, but in this sitrep it was especially apt given the long drawn out metaphor he was desperately reaching for.
We are about to complete four pages in this ATMB thread, but the main subject, twickster hasn’t responded. Is that normal?
Really? So because I don’t pay 15 dollars a year, I’m a freeloader? Any other contribution I make to this board: giving advice, providing support, just posting something funny to try to make others laugh, well, that is just worthless & I shouldn’t have any say in how things are run here? The money makes THAT big a difference? Geez.
For a nonsensical complaint? Completely.
Really? Because I’ve seen pretty much every other moderator that actually responds and explains why their action was correct no matter how nonsensical the complaint. And I can give you links if you’d like. Marley23 and Colibri especially are really good about this. They respond to nearly every complaint no matter how nonsensical.
In my opinion, it’s an act of ignorance to not respond to a complaint against you.
