I got another one of those emails this morning and i think it sounds to bizarre to be true, wondering if anybody can help me on this.
The story goes that this woman cuts her tongue on an envelope she is licking. The cut gets sore, she goes to a doctor, he puts her under, cuts open her tongue and a live cockroach walks out. she picked up cockroach eggs from the glue on the envelope.
I have heard that a cockroach’s favorite food was stamp and envelope glue, but could this really happen?
No problem; it is worth mentioning that in almost every case, the subject of emails pleading “forward this to everyone you know” will be an urban legend or otherwise false.
All that happens when you forward them is that you generate an ever-growing list of valid email addresses - ripe for harvesting by the first spammer it reaches.
(I fact it is worse still because the person who sent it to you probably sent it to a number of other folks too, but your email address will probably be listed in the ‘To:’ header in all copies; even if you don’t forward the message yourself, your address may still go forward in all the other copies.
Since the OP is answered, I’d like to add that I avoid licking envelopes for fear of cutting my tongue; it’s happened before, and it’s not desireable. I like to use a damp piece of paper towel on envelopes and stamps.
I tend to buy self-seal envelopes nowadays; if forced to lick a reply envelope or something, I am always careful to moisten it by licking toward the edge, not because of cockroaches, but because paper cuts on the tongue are really nasty.
