Have I coined a term?

Google and Urban Dictionary searches, as well as the response on Facebook tell me I just might have, which would be fun… I have always wondered about slang and idiom anthe originators… Perhaps I am expiencing such a moment. But the only way to know is to ask the dope.

Earlier today my friend called me via Facetime, but she only let it ring three times. i called her right back, and she took a long time to answer, and whenshe did she immediately confiermed my suspicion, that she had accidentally called, you know how that is, so I said “Oh, you just buttfaced me.” She and her friends cracked up.

I shared on FB, and a friend who was a high level ad copywriter predicted it would be the number one definition in the urban dictionary within 24 hours. i check and it isn’t there at the moment, so could be.

For anyone who is totally lost, accidentally dialing someone on your cell phone is widely known as a “butt-dial”: phone in your back pocket, you sit down, pressure from your ass makes the call.

So doing the same via Facetime…buttFace.

Once I had thought of it, which I did only today, in the moment, it seems very obvious. So when I checked the urban dictionary I was kind of surprised that it was not there. Has anybody seen it anywhere else?

In the future, they will revere you as highly as they revere the guy who first said “douchenozzle.”

So, no.

Rats! I looked at the entries above that one about 10 lines. I missed that.

It did seem strange that no one else would’ve thought of it by now, since it’s kind of obvious.

Oh well.

coining a term isn’t just about coming up with a new word. anyone can do that. it’s about using it in a context that it becomes popular and enters into the common language.

<Insert obligatory Mark Sanchez joke here>
