That documentary was based on the real-life case of my friend’s uncle. Pity. What it didn’t show was what happened to the monkey’s family in the aftermath.
Apes and monkeys are not interchangeable! Damnit!! Both are subsets of primates. Humans are a subset of apes. But humans are smarter than other apes!!!
Having achieved so much more than them- The Wheel, New York, Wars, and so on. 
Sigh. I know monkeys are not apes, and I figured someone would get their knickers in a twist over that. 
But sometimes you have to forego complete accuracy in order to shoehorn in a good movie quote.

I tell ya, anybody who died with him as their helper monkey wouldn’t have any mystery about the circumstances.
Ummm why “mysterious” circumstances ?
I mean it wouldn’t surprise me if some owners of helper monkeys have on occasion been attacked and even killed by their monkeys. They are after wild animals, not pets.
But what mysterious about that ? Owner found bled to death covered in monkey bites, blood covered monkey found nearby. Not exactly the hardest murder to solve.
On the other hand if the monkey manages to cover up his crime, maybe has an airtight alibi, or hires a professional hit man to do the deed, then yeah I’d be a bit surprised.
