Have you been banned anywhere?

God bless you! You’re a hero!

Ah, okay. There ya go. I too commend you.

Reddit is so stupid with it’s Auto-Bans. There are these large groups of Subreddits that will Auto-Ban you from posting there if you made even a single post on a “controversial form” either left or right wing. So you can post on the subreddit for the popular podcast Cumtown either for or against the show, and for whatever reason a bunch of feminist Subreddits will ban you from posting on them automatically without taking the context of your post into account at all, it’s just that it’s a podcast that’s “offensive” so they just automatically ban you.

I got banned from a baseball team message board. I have no idea what for. One day I tried to log on and it said “you’ve been banned”.

Yup, that’s one of the automatic excommunications. Asking to be a priest while female.

My mom famously (in our family at least) got banned from the local Target for calling a cashier a “Cunt” after my mom asked for a price check on something at the register and the irate cashier said off-hand “You know we got these automatic price-checkers around the store for a reason” and my mom automatically snapped back “Don’t be cunty with me I’m not your mother”.

So cashier complained to the Manager, manager took cashier’s side and told my mom to never come back into the store ever again or they would call the cops for trespassing and claimed they had security camera footage of her they would post on a board in the back on a DO NOT ALLOW sign they apparently had. Well jokes on them, they closed less than 5 years later and are now a generic supermarket my mom has walked into plenty of times since.

Really? There are thousands of female Catholics in Germany right now demanding the right for women to become priests, loudly and publicly, organized in Maria 2.0. I’m sure there are plenty of women among them wanting to become priests, but I’ve never heard of one of them being excommunicated.

I stand corrected, this appears to be a new automatic excommunication.

Technically, I was banned twice in the comments section on one news website. That said, I think it was an automated ban, based on people reporting posts with an aim to censor them - not because I had broken any rules.

I emailed the site owner, both times, and asked to be un-banned. They reviewed the posts and re-instated me.

This is one issue with any system that tries to get around having to keep people on staff to perform actual moderation duties.

I was once banned from a college bar for Conduct Unbecoming (to a degree that, in the words of Ron White - “When I said they threw me out of the bar, they threw me out of the bar!”) Something about sharing joints with the band and referring to the bouncers as “over-steroided puppets of Authority” or some-such.

Beer was involved.

I am guessing weed was also involved. Cheers brother.

But I doubt if he carried through on that.

I got banned from TwoP for …drumroll please…twice calling the “recappers” “reviewers”. Not even on purpose. No really.

I was almost banned from a D&D MB. See, I like the game, but there were lots of haters. So they openly called for reporting all my posts. The moderator simply counted the number of times my posts had been reported, and was going to ban me. However, I am a minor D&D celebrity, Old School, and I knew one of the Big Cheeses, who looked into it, and told her to restore me, and to “stop being silly”. That seems to be an issue on several boards- the moderators seem to take that as a mark of being a troublemaker, although of course it may just being controversial.

I think I still have a topic ban here.

No outright banishments but several lengthy timeouts at another board for being uncivil to conservatives in a few posts.

Shrug.

Never been banned, but I was once the cause of a forum-wide ban on all climate change discussions in a conservative forum. I joined to make some rebuttals against ignorant and blatantly false climate change denial claims. Every time someone brought up this bullshit, I was there to refute it.

This was a board where posters typically weren’t banned and “topic bans” as we know them here weren’t a thing. The mods were getting frustrated and perplexed about what to do about it. Eventually they declared that there were to be no further discussions about climate science. Funny, they had no problems before with discussions about climate change denial “science”!

I was banned from the ol’ Television Without Pity forum, after having been there and posting semi-regularly for over a year, straight to ban without a warning, for a post that I thought was made in sufficient jest to be apparent, but I guess not.

“Ha ha, your voting district got one less representative after congressional caucus.”
“Ok buddy, you just crossed a line!”

Curious, how does one commit a customs offence “leaving” Canada? Did you mean “entering” Canada by leaving another country?

Attempting to smuggle out Mountie gear or counterfeit Celine Dion recordings?

When I was much younger, I got caught in a speed trap in OR and received a ridiculously expensive speeding ticket (I was young and broke and this ticket was much higher than others I had received). I didn’t live in OR and decided to call and ask what would happen if I didn’t pay the ticket. They said I could no longer drive in OR and I decided that was fine by me.

All was well and good until I had to renew my driver’s license in my own state and they let me know I had to pay that outstanding OR ticket. Oh well, I can now drive in OR again.

The Diablo II Off-Topic Forums on diabloii.net (and so I believe the whole message board—but that was the only forum I regularly posted in). I was mean to an overbearing and racist army sergeant who frequently cited his military service as justification for his being racist and overbearing. I may also have done so with an off-color joke tht I will not now repeat. Or at least that was the last straw—and all the “straws” came after one of the site admins decided to take over the mantle of forum moderator and started issuing warnings/suspensions left and right.

Still… I hate racist and/or overbearing types in general, but I especially hate it when they think military service justifies being racist and/or overbearing. First because it doesn’t (it’s patently untrue that it justifies—or even necessarily explains), but also because it fits into a stereotype that I’d kind of like to not be subjected to as an ex-military type myself.

I met @Bone on that forum, actually.
