Have you ever been harassed over your hobbies?

I’ve had a few situations where random people wanted to attack me over what music I was listening to. I used to buy super cheap headphones and people could hear what I was playing. I will list a few incidents I have had over the years. I wonder if there are any situation where someone physically or verbally attack you over your hobbies.

I was at an ATM and a white guy called the police on me saying I stole an mp3 player for someone. He said he knew I stole it because no black dude listens to Laura Brannigan. Dude actually followed me down the street telling me to turn the time over to time. He backed off when I said I would beat him down. The police also told dude to get a life.

I was heading to the bank and a black man walking down the street was like dude what are you listening to? He got upset and said black people don’t listen to Laura Brannigan. Cut that crap off. This guy followed me into the bank and continued to tell me to stop listening to white people’s music or else. Eventually when he continued to verbally abuse me the security in the bank told him to leave.

I will mention one more incident. I was at a green line station listening to Eazy E when a black woman approached me. She said fool this is the west side of Chicago we don’t do Eazy over here. When I ignored her, she attempted to get two Mexican guys to beat me up. They laughed at her and cursed her out. She then found a guy who was dressed up like Ronald Mcdonald. Dude came over to me talking crap but left when the Mexican dudes started laughing at him and asking where Hamburglar was at.

Which just goes to show our country has a long way to go in reconciling our historical treatment of Laura Brannigan fans.

The funny thing is I had a number of other people talk crap to me over listening to her music. I just did not feel like mentioning all of them. I don’t know what the issues is honestly. I had a guy who wanted to fight me on the buss over listening to Eminem I kind of understood why. I was listening to that Superman song and some chicks on the buss did not like it. I guess he was protecting their honor or something.

This is really funny. You made my day.

Is this supposed to be some kind of parody?

I don’t see the connection between your headline (“hobbies”) and people who harass you because you are playing your music so loud that they can hear it outside on the sidewalk when you’re walking by.

So no, I have never had such an experience. My hobbies tend to be both more quiet and less public.

Get better earphones. Problem solved!

Or learn to play the bagpipes.

Everybody has been harassed over their hobbies. When I was in high school, I took heat for playing chess. In turn, I gently mocked other people. It’s how young Canadians communicate.

This stuff matters much less as you grow older. Stupid stereotypes are just that. Some people like basketball. Some people like Dragonball. Some people even like Nickelback.

I’ve been told I have too many fig trees. But it would be worse if I listened to Laura Branigan.

One time, a talk show host gently ribbed me over my legendary love of cashews. That sure was a gay old time.

Are you just listening to “Gloria” on repeat? Because I’m amazed random strangers can recognize Laura Branigan without that specific song playing…

A gang of old ladies attacked me because they didn’t like how I crochet. I called the cops and they had to use a water cannon to disperse the mob.

If someone didn’t like the music I was playing to the point they wanted to get me beaten up I’d ask if they thought 38-Special was more to their liking.

I remember as a kid sitting in the school cafeteria sorting through a roll of pennies looking for wheat backs when a bunch of philatelists from sixth grade came over and kicked my ass.

@a_dudes_thought_s … If you’re forcing everyone around you to listen to your music, you’re harassing them first.

I mean, would it kill you to listen to your music a little softer? And of course, either get better headphones or just turn off the tunes when close to others.

And I say that even though I’m on your side re: Laura Brannigan. I just would hate hearing it from your headphones. But hey, privately listen to Slayer or NWA or the BeeGees if that’s your jam…

I like Laura Brannigan, but only her new stuff.

that’s what pillow cases are for.

Or tube socks.

I’m surprised they have her name on the tip of their tongue. I had to look up who she is. Yeah, I remember “Gloria” and “Self-Control” very well, but I couldn’t tell you who sang them for a million dollars. (Of course, I don’t take one word of the OP seriously, but I was quite amused.)
