I hate listening to other people's music

…but I think everybody else should be okay with listening to mine.

So, when my roommates are listening to their music, I expect them to use headphones so that I don’t have to hear it. But if I’m listening to mine, I can crank up the volume (when required - and let’s face it, “I, Robot” requires it!) and again, they have to put on headphones to avoid listening to it.

Yeah, I’m selfish that way. I don’t care. Besides I don’t have headphones.

Well, in all fairness, I have much better taste in music than they do. (I think. I’d actually have to have to listen to their music to be sure…)

Yeah, well I’m a better driver than all you other morons. Get off my road.

(“I Robot” is a fine choice BTW)

My friend’s (assigned) college roommate liked to play George Michael at loud volumes in my dorm (this was in the mid-90s so our man GM was NOT current or at all popular). We figured out which breaker went to the outlet her CD player was plugged into, and tripped it whenever we got sick of her crap.

MY friend didn’t know that people were breaking her electricity intentionally because of her roommate until we told her years later. She thought one side of the room had an electrical problem.

I mention this in case you experience any electrical problems in your apartment that always coincidentally occur when you’re playing loud, annoying music.

heh, heh, well my music may be occasionally loud but its never annoying! well, at least not to me and that’s what counts!

(Yeah, it’s embarrassing but I could totally be okay with ‘wake me up before you go, go!’ lol)

What was your purpose for creating this thread?

Thank you on behalf of Alan Parsons for your fine endorsement!

But speaking of being on the road, my dislike of ‘other people’s music’ extends to those morons on the road who insist on blasting their unfortunate choice of music with their windows open so that all others on the road with them can ‘enjoy’ it! I hate that too! Although, I am totally okay with blasting my own choices - I feel that I am doing others a service by exposing them to good music!

By which I mean - when I do it, it’s being thoughtful, when others do it, it’s just obnoxious!

omigod! I had to have a purpose? My freakin’ life doesn’t even have a purpose, but SD threads have to?

This is humiliating - am I going to be deleted?

When I had roommates we all had the same choice in music. It was never an issue.

What do your roommates listen to? Depending upon the answer, you may be acquitted under a self-defense clause.

Sure, I’ll wear my headphones, but you’ll have to hear me sing-along at the top of my lungs to nothing. Is that what you really want?

When *I *was in college we didn’t even *have *headphones. My roommate would walk around carrying her Victor Talking Machine, blasting James Reese Europe’s Society Orchestra playing “The Castle House Rag” at top volume . . .

oh, ouch! no, that’s not good at all! I’m afraid you have flunked the roommate test - I’m going to have to ask you to GTFO in the next 30 days.

Don’t make me call the sheriff…

You have a bright future in reality television.

My condolences when you are strangled with your roommate’s headphone cables.

Well, my roommates are in my same age group (by which I mean - OLD!), so they actually occasionally have similar taste in music. But for the most part, I don’t really know what they like 'cuz they are not allowed to play it at a volume that impinges on my consciousness. So, while some of it is probably good, I’m not really willing to trust their choices enough to give them carte blanche to play it at will.

I have occasionally heard Beatles or Rolling Stones music from them - and for the most part, that’s not okay.

How is my self-defense clause holding up?

Now, now. I’m sure there’s some music on my iPod you’d like. At least there’s no Beatles or Rolling Stones. That’s got to count for something.

It’s not possible to like Alan Parsons and not like The Beatles or the Stones. Sorry.

and yet you went on to live a (semi) normal life! You have greater mental defenses than I! :stuck_out_tongue:

Really? You think so? <preens> Although I think I have a high bitch quotient which is good, I’m afraid my camera shyness and mike fright might be an inhibiting factor. Damn.

Not to worry - my roommates actually like me! (well, so far anyway…)

Well, now we must differ. Although I don’t actually dislike the Beatles or the Stones, there is nothing that they ever did that comes close to APP.

Your choice, but it’s always my decision… :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m the exact opposite. I don’t mind listening to other’s music, nor do I mind putting my headphones on, I just really hate other people listening to my music. That’s one of the reasons I hate driving before I have a chance to change my iPod to a publicly acceptable playlist. I feel like people are judging with their judging ears.

I wouldn’t want to be like you…
