…but I think everybody else should be okay with listening to mine.
So, when my roommates are listening to their music, I expect them to use headphones so that I don’t have to hear it. But if I’m listening to mine, I can crank up the volume (when required - and let’s face it, “I, Robot” requires it!) and again, they have to put on headphones to avoid listening to it.
Yeah, I’m selfish that way. I don’t care. Besides I don’t have headphones.
Well, in all fairness, I have much better taste in music than they do. (I think. I’d actually have to have to listen to their music to be sure…)
My friend’s (assigned) college roommate liked to play George Michael at loud volumes in my dorm (this was in the mid-90s so our man GM was NOT current or at all popular). We figured out which breaker went to the outlet her CD player was plugged into, and tripped it whenever we got sick of her crap.
MY friend didn’t know that people were breaking her electricity intentionally because of her roommate until we told her years later. She thought one side of the room had an electrical problem.
I mention this in case you experience any electrical problems in your apartment that always coincidentally occur when you’re playing loud, annoying music.
Thank you on behalf of Alan Parsons for your fine endorsement!
But speaking of being on the road, my dislike of ‘other people’s music’ extends to those morons on the road who insist on blasting their unfortunate choice of music with their windows open so that all others on the road with them can ‘enjoy’ it! I hate that too! Although, I am totally okay with blasting my own choices - I feel that I am doing others a service by exposing them to good music!
By which I mean - when I do it, it’s being thoughtful, when others do it, it’s just obnoxious!
When *I *was in college we didn’t even *have *headphones. My roommate would walk around carrying her Victor Talking Machine, blasting James Reese Europe’s Society Orchestra playing “The Castle House Rag” at top volume . . .
Well, my roommates are in my same age group (by which I mean - OLD!), so they actually occasionally have similar taste in music. But for the most part, I don’t really know what they like 'cuz they are not allowed to play it at a volume that impinges on my consciousness. So, while some of it is probably good, I’m not really willing to trust their choices enough to give them carte blanche to play it at will.
I have occasionally heard Beatles or Rolling Stones music from them - and for the most part, that’s not okay.
Really? You think so? <preens> Although I think I have a high bitch quotient which is good, I’m afraid my camera shyness and mike fright might be an inhibiting factor. Damn.
Not to worry - my roommates actually like me! (well, so far anyway…)
I’m the exact opposite. I don’t mind listening to other’s music, nor do I mind putting my headphones on, I just really hate other people listening to my music. That’s one of the reasons I hate driving before I have a chance to change my iPod to a publicly acceptable playlist. I feel like people are judging with their judging ears.
