Been Pitted once, and took someone to the Pit once. It takes a lot to get me to cross the line and Pit someone. I also try to be easy going and don’t expect to be pitted. The time I was, the OP had a valid reason, but, I think, a misunderstanding.

Not so far to my knowledge. I have pitted, but generally only really obvious people that ended up banned anyway, and once where people pointed out I was wrong and I ended up agreeing. I’ve had…one mod warning, I think, possibly two. Clearly there’s room to up my being-an-ass level.
I’ve just been pitted for the first time, something I knew was inevitable once I became a mod. 
I’ve only ever pitted one other poster.
As far as I know I’ve never been pitted.
However, I have pitted a few other Dopers in my time, so I’m probably due…
I was pitted once, way back in the good old days. The OPer was a little high strung at the time and didn’t take a flippant comment very well. No grudges. Life’s too short.

No, but during my first month or so on the boards, another poster “called bullshit” on a story I posted. It was improbable but true. (And it wasn’t even that exciting…pretty lame by board standards, actually.) I was pretty put off by it, because I have neither the time nor the inclination to make shit up and post it on message boards, hoping to dupe a bunch of people into believing it. I’ve since mellowed out; I don’t really care who thinks what. And I don’t have any desire to go back and see who it was…maybe we’re nice to each other now!
Of the three people I can remember pitting, none post anymore.
Pretty lame as far as special abilities go, but not everyone can be Spiderman.
I’ve got you beat. I’ve never been pitted, never been warned and never started a thread in the wrong forum.
Just recently, in a thread about firefighters, I yelled “Cite!?” for the first time (it was a Pit thread, too!), and totally reamed out another poster in the same thread. I got a bunch of pats on the back for my comment, and a couple people even said, “Whoa, don’t piss her off!” 
Last time I asked for a cite in the Pit I got “This is the Pit, not GD. No cite for you” or something similar.
When I asked for a cite, I got, “I read it somewhere a few years ago.” :rolleyes:
I pitted a fellow Doper exactly once. It turned into a six page ordeal. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who had an issue with them. They have since been banned.
I once started a Pit thread in defense of a Mod (can you guess which one?) but that’s really the opposite of a Pitting isn’t it?
I have participated in Pit threads that others have started, regarding other members. The only instances of those that I can recall involved posters who have since been banned, or just stopped posting here.
Once by name and once in an indirect “I’m not naming any names, but…” sort of way.

Huh, same here. Only my shit was painful and personal, and it completely blindsided me at a very bad time. I guess that’s the closest I’ve ever come to actually getting Pitted, since technically it happened in the Pit.
Yep, that’s pretty much how I felt.
I guess I’ve just decided that the longer I stick around, the more people will trust that I’m being genuine with them. Losing my cool and running away really doesn’t add much credibility. Moving on, and sticking around, and trying to contribute to the Boards is much more rewarding.

I was one of the people who posted in a hugh trainwreck a while ago, which was pitted by one of the people on Page 1, but as only one of many, many posters in the trainwreck, I can only claim a 3% pitting.
I’ve pitting others outside of the Dope, and I’m writing one now pitting an obnoxious woman, but I’ve never pitted anyone on the board.
Although I’ve posted in a few pit threads I’ve never been pitted, nor felt the need to call anyone else out.
I can see it possibly happening due to the occasional cultural clash. I recently used an innocuous word in a thread which upset some people from a different culture. I couldn’t have anticipated it but something like that could turn into a pitting.
Never been Pitted. Apparently no one can see my asshole-half. 
I’ve started only two Pits, both recently actually. One was a weak rant at one mod, which was successful at reopening a closed thread (Yay). The other one was just to seek clarification on a thread’s disappearance after I didn’t get an email response. First time that ever happened, usually the moderation & admins are very good at returning emails.
So both were positive experience. Pit threads have been very good for me.
