I prefer honest responses to direct questions, so I’m sympathetic to the guy. Asking your age was probably gauche, but you were the one who asked for specific information about signs of aging.
If I got a no-bullshit response like that (from a woman) to a tricky question I’d be halfway toward falling in love.

“That’s amazing, no gets my age right. How did you know?” is not asking for signs of aging. I thought he’d asked the bartender who’d been serving my group and saw our IDs.

You did kind of walk into it, though, by asking him to guess and asking him how he knew. I guess he could have just gone with “lucky guess” but probably a good example of how you shouldn’t ask if you don’t want to know…
I agree with this take. The guy could have been more diplomatic but she did ask.
I have a strict policy of not ever guessing someone’s age. Too many pitfalls.
Yes, I got ditched in this way. I was around 22 years old. Went to spend the evening at a bar on a first date. The date quickly turned into a vicious circle where she continued to lose interest and I continued to act increasingly desperate in an attempt to be “charming”. Finally she got a female stranger at the bar to back her up with a fake story about how she had to leave right away. Very embarrassing memory all around.
Oh man. :o That sounds rough. I don’t know how long ago “22” was for you but I’m sorry you had to experience that. Ouch!
