Have you ever done "hard drugs?"

Tried crack once; made my ears ring and had tintinnitis for about a minute and…that was it.
Tried half a hit of lsd once…got claustrophobic at a Grateful Dead concert, but it was interesting. Not THAT interesting.
With most drugs, my attitude is pretty pragmatic: 1. If I don’t like it, it’s a waste of time/money/bad trip. 2. If I do like it…yeah, that’s even WORSE. So, no thanks, really.
Mushrooms are a lot more fun, and is probably the only ‘illegal’ substance I’d do every so often. If it was around. Maybe every couple years or so.

I tried poppers once, not a big deal, not interested in trying it again, coke a few times, its great to sober up and keep the party going, but last time wasn’t very pleasant

Was that on purpose? Either way, funny.

This almost perfectly describes my experience with cocaine. The only difference is there is no way I would get addicted to morphine, makes me swell up and itch like crazy.

Nope. I was friends with drug addicts in high school, but I was always scared to try anything beyond pot and alcohol, and didn’t even experiment with that until I was 19.

My sole experience with opiates was taking my prescribed Vicodin a couple weeks ago after surgery. Didn’t make me high.

yup.

Coke (maybe a dozen times), Mushrooms (many times), LSD twice, purple microdot (I swear that was what I was told it was), but nothing really “hard”.

Never done any hard drugs, not even pot (which I know isn’t a “hard drug”). I don’t even drink alcohol very often. Just not into the whole thing. I got a prescription for Oxycodone when I got my wisdom teeth out, and aside from making my jaw not hurt, that didn’t do anything special for me.

I admit I’m occasionally curious about what it would be like to try something like LSD, but only if it were legal and I did it somewhere safe. But I’d probably be too chicken to try it anyway.

Having lived through the 80s, when *everybody *did cocaine, I have a hard time including it on this list. So I will abstain from voting.

re: aruvqan’s experience with the Devil’s Dandruff, National Lampoon had a cocaine simulator:

Take $100 out of your wallet and set it on fire.
Drink 6 shots of espresso.
Spray nasal spray up your nose.

I came of age in the early 1970s and I’ve done everything and more listed in the OP, many times. Don’t regret a minute of it either, to be honest. I had a ton of fun.

Back then I think LSD was stronger, I think. I’ve talked to people younger than me who have told stories about dropping a tab, then going to the movies, a resturant, a bar, a family event, like that…the stuff I was taking put you into such serious hallucinations that there’s no freaking way I could imagine trying to act normal in public while tripping. (And yes - it won’t have much of an effect unless you wait a few days between trips.)

Meth, I did for one weekend in the mid-80s, shooting (injecting) it during a wildly poor lapse of judgement. That was seriously scary. I felt SO good that coming down was a really horrible experience and for about a day I would have done just about any degrading and illegal thing you can think of to get more. I got over it without doing anything degrading or illegal and the last time I have done any illegal drug was 1986. Or 1994, if you count shrooms.

I’m so nervous about it now I don’t even like to take prescription painkillers like Vicodin (I know, child’s play), which I can get occasionally for my fucked-up back. Typically, I will get a scrip about once a year, wait until I am really in pain, take one or two, then not take any more and end up tossing them months later. I’m glad I got it all in and out of my system early, to be honest. Back then I knew a few people who were pretty much fried by age 30 and I made a conscious decision not to be like that.

Nah, just smoking cigs and the emj.

Chiro I agree, with what I’ve been told. Back in my day (early 20s – age, not decade of 20th C), just taking a tab or maybe half of even the cleanest acid and going alone to shoot pool or catch a movie was not anything unusual.

Agree with all others about the “addiction” to hallucinogens – I haven’t tried anything more “advanced” in technology than ecstasy, nor have I tried salvia divinorum (which I’ve heard is just a nuts full-on hallucination trip), nor PCP, nor meth, but anything else, sure. The last time I did some lines of coke was at some band rehearsal – for some reason someone had some extra. It’s a good, clean party drug, though, if you’re around people who aren’t total freaks. I’d question if even coke was that addictive physically. Maybe crack, but crack never got me off in a way that made me seek it out.

What kind of sucks is that on the West Coast it’s hard to find white heroin – the kind you can snort. Damned if I’m going all Bad Lieutenant and chasing the dragon’s tail with tinfoil, and shooting it is too inconvenient, plus, I wear T-shirts a lot.

Sorry 2x post, but Chiro’s post reminded me – why do some/most people say “scrip”? Aren’t those those tickets you get at carnivals and such? I always thought “script” was preferred. Not trying to bash or correct anyone – honestly I’m curious how and when the usage came about. Maybe I’m the one who’s wrong.

Mescaline, most likely.

Errmm…at a guess ;).

Morphine.

But a doctor gave it to me.

Got me. I have no clue why I use that term…script seems writing-related to me.

Jaledin - thanks for confirming that; I’m not sure how true my impressions are (didn’t remember the 1970s real gud, LOL) but certainly the impression I’ve had over the last decade or two when discussing drugs with [del] whippersnappers [/del] younger users.

And I do want to point out to you [del] whippersnappers [/del] younger users that while illegal drugs can be fun and all, my mention upthread of having fun using is not intended to be an endorsement or anything. Illegal = bad and had I had children I would probably prefer they not dabble extensively in mind-altering substances.

Why not just straight blotter acid?
I’m having a difficult time thinking of mushrooms or the aforementioned blotter acid as ‘hard’ drugs’. And while I knew people who loved to do lots of cocaine (powder), they didn’t seem hooked to me the way say, heroin users can be (at least in popular fiction…I admit I haven’t known any real life heroin addicts).

And unlike you hippies I never triedcocaine or even pot.

Weird, because I was born in 1960.

Hey, that sounds like something Bill Cosby would say in a “Fat Albert and The Gang” episode – it’s on the brain, since I went as Mushmouth to campus on Monday. I’m surprised quite a few people knew what that was!

ETA as anti-Cos – drugs can be a lot of fun, but I think it all depends on who your crew is. I’ve only done any kind of drugs with friends or, when I know what they do, alone, occasionally (try watching “Clockwork Orange” in a theater on a mere 1/8th of shrooms – that was a weird walk back to my apt). Just smoked some weed for the first time in a long months with some people on campus, but they were cool chicks so there wasn’t no “trippin’” or hell-raising. Anyway, per OP, weed doesn’t count – I prefer to smoke alone, when I rarely do smoke, unless the people I’m with are cool and good at talking, listening, etc.

I tend to agree. But it’s such a powerful chemical that you can’t really call it a “soft” drug either. Psychedelics/hallucinogens really fall outside of any soft/hard continuum.

I’ve done 3 on the OP’s list (coke, meth, LSD). LSD was by far the favorite. I do like that class of recreational chemicals (MDMA, 2C-I, 2C-E, 2C-G, AMT, 2-CT-2, TMA-2, 5-MEO-AMT, DiPT, 4-HO-MIPT, 5-MeO-DIPT).

The couple of times I tried mushrooms, I got really bad stomach cramps. Been reluctant every since.
